just wondering is it possible to receive a grant for a masters if you already have a postgraduate diploma, is it seen as progression even though they are both at level 9.

Hey, did you find out an answer to the above? I am wondering the same myself! Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, they wont fund a second qualification at the same level, so if you have a level nine but would like to do a phd (level 10) they'll consider funding you, but to do a masters (level 9) they won.t

I'm wondering about this too. I read this on another thread

The PGD is lower than a masters even though they are both level 9. A masters is just above this and is seen as progression from the dip.

I have just completed the PGD in Business and got a grant and I am now applying for a masters as I was told I am eligible. But some good news for you! You can apply for tax relief on your course just make sure its a recognised course (revenue.ie). Fill out the form and send it away. You should get about 40% of tuition fees back which would work out at about 2,000-2,500euro. You should defn look into it. My friend did it with her dip.:)

Anyone know for certain whether Dip holders would definitely be ineligible?

Also I read this on Donegal Co Council website (although not my local authority)
PLEASE NOTE that for the purposes of funding all courses pursued must represent a progression from courses already pursued, i.e., must be of higher academic level, e.g., Higher Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate – Masters – PhD/Doctorate.

Didn't find an answer, but I would say it would depend on the course and who is processing your application, but I have to say they have changed the grant form this year so you have differentiate between what level your postgrad is at which wasn't the case last year.

N.B Students studying the Integrated PgDip/MA Programmes at the University of Ulster may be eligible to have fees paid for both the Diploma and Masters element of their course, provided that the students receive only one postgraduate award and are not exceeding the normal duration of a Masters Programme (4 Years). Confirmation in writing from the relevant Institution, to confirm that the student will receive only one postgraduate award, is required in all such cases, before grant aid can be considered for the Masters element of the course.

That was from donegal co co website too, which would lead me to believe they will only fund one level 9 qualification in that you can't get a postgraduate dip and masters on the grant.
