    Hi,
Finished college before the summer and signed up for the Work Placement Programme but have to wait three months to I can apply for the jobs(3 months is nearly up now)
I was just wondering has anyone any reviews on it or has anyone done it or know anyone that has done it that would have any information on it. Like is it good or bad? All the jobs that i have been applying for you need 1-2 years experience which i dont have but if i do the wwp i will have 9 months experience along with the four months which should be enough for some jobs.

    Any information would be helpfull.
    Thanking you :)

what sector are you working in . I have been approaching employers directly, but still nothing so far. From some placements i have seen advertised , i think some of theese employers are just looking for work done for free. Not intrested in what benefit it has for graduate:confused:

I'm looking for a job in administration, reception or secetrary work. Yeah thats the only thing about it you dont get paid but you can claim job seekers which i'm doing at the min cause you have to be 3 months on it to do the wwp. Be handy getting the experience anyway.

I am the same , on JA at the moment. May have someone intrested in a wpp1 for me, only problem it 65 k away.... so i think it will be a no go on this one  can not afford to pay out that much running a car for nothing. if it was 20 k i would be intrested..

    my field is architectural technology:eek:

don't apply if you are happy enough to have the time off.

If you see a WPP you want go for it.. by the time they interview/fill the position you will be applicable if its only a 3 month waiting period (it was a 6 month period when I went for my WPP )

You can generalise experience of WPP positions in that its the same as you can generalise experience in paying job.. i.e. its very hard to generalise. I'm glad I did one. I know one other person who is also glad and is now in full-time employment.

At least with a WPP if you don't like it you can leave at any time ( theres no notice period ).. go for it!

Hi there,i would like to reply to the above user with the query on FAS with an honest message, doing a FAS coures (in light of all the corruption on tutours passing their FAS unemployed students illegally), i would say from an employers perspective would be looked down upon(Fetac or not).

Due to all the corruption on these FAS 'training schemes' employers would be skeptical,i would say stay in a course (fetac approved) and pay the few euro you have saved up,do not leave to join the endless que of FAS.

Those who have joined obviously think they are on to a good thing,FAS in the boom years at best were really there to bolster up the welfare wage nothing more really.

Fas is just a government scam do not get caught up in the ugly of it,you might not get hired if they see the dreaded FAS on your C.V

The real function of FAS is to drain taxes off the public and provide little in the way of adequate job training and or real oppurtunities as for the FAS courses most are outdated,(have a look and you will see),also they dont UPSKILL as they claim,if you are looking to top up your diploma all they have are pissy low grade cert courses, they are fetac but then again do you want your fate to be sealed in an interview when you mention you got your accreditation in FAS ,they agency that illegally qualified people that had no clue?
Due to the recent bad press (speaking for myself) i would say no.

I have been a ce worker on one of those FAS schemes i worked for FREE.

There is no wage bolstering up now..Only free labour, the supervisor i had tried and sucessfully ruined my C.V,slandered me,bullied me and harrassed me.

The level of professionalism in FAS is of low standard so beware of some poisionous supervisors with bad attitudes.

As a ce worker you do not have the full rights of that of a paid worker,so you are treated like a sub standard employee.

I would not reccomend a FAS course for the simple fact it does not look good on your C.V fas work exp is seen as false work exp due to the bad press.

If you were to apply for a job and FAS is your experience then you might as well forget it.

THE MAIN FUNCTION OF FAS IS TO SUPPORT OUR FAILED POLITICANS,OUR NEW EXEC PAUL O TOOLE GOT A NEW CAR OFF FAS

FAS PROVIDE LOCAL BUSINESSES WITH FREE WORKERS( YOU AND ME) AND DO NOT PROVIDE 'WORK PLACEMENT' AS THEY CLAIM YOU WORK FOR PEANUTS AND AFTER YOUR CE TERM IS FINISHED YOU ARE NOT CONSIDERED FOR ANY VACANCIES AT THE CESSATION OF EMPLOYMENT.

If experience is what your after you can say good night to that idea bc employers with a clue wont hire a FAS clown.

FAS IS A SCAM TO HAVE CHEAP LABOUR THERE NOT EVEN RUNNING SCHEMES LIKE THIS IN INDIA! IF YOU WANT RIGHTS RESPECT AND PAY DO NOT GO THE FAS ROUTE,AS THERE ARE NO OPPURTUNITIES NOW,I WOULD SAY FAS HAS HAD ITS GOOD DAY IN THE 90'S..YOURE A FOOL IF YOU JOIN NOW!

I completed 9 course with fas, found them fine to deal with, all recognized qualifications that were viewed favorably by my employers.

tbh your post hasn't much relevance to the WPP scheme.

Fas has neglible input into the running of WPP's - which depending on circumstances and ones point of view could be a good or a bad thing.

In my experience Fas advertised the job. someone visited me after about 3 months to see how I was getting on. tbh she seemed fairly clueless about the work I was doing but thats not important. the main thing I got from my dealings with Fas was that they said if I was having problems with the provider I was to contact them asap. Also they are of the opinion that if you get a paying job while on the WPP you are entitled to up sticks asap and move to the new job.

There was a WPP guy in my company before I joined and he has since been taken on as a full time employee.

You sound like you had a bad experience with Fas but this could have happended to you in any job .. in this board there are loads of people who have had problems in work. there are feckers everywhere.. not just in Fas.

ps: go easy on the CAPS.

    .

afaik the courses where the grades were doctored were run by a private college (not going to name them but I think they are based in Dublin 6W) and not directly by fas themselves.

with regards to SOME employers regard for fas courses.. to give you some perspective ( and this apparently is something the CEOs of MNCs have said ) .. some employers don't hold very high opinions of the Irish universities either.

truth is I can't guarantee that doing a WPP is going to get someone their dream job or in fact any job. its a risk , just like doing a masters or taking a Fas course ( I have done both actually )

these are tough times and i think its psychologically better for people to be proactive , doing something , rather than mulling over the opportunities that aren't(may not be) there.

    +1.

Signed myself up for an online FAS course recently. I'm considering it as giving me a starting point in a further qualification, and I will continue to do further courses in the field paid for by myself. As with many, I'm slightly sceptical, however it's free and it will start me off.

It's better to do something than nothing. As for the WPP thing, it gives you experience, and most importantly, makes your face known to people who might be able to open further doors for you. I'm not sure about the WPP scheme as an idea, but taking part in it will open more doors to you than sitting at home all day will.

    Just my 2 cents.

'there are feckers everywhere even in fas'.. im sure they are EVERYWHERE..;)

Not such a big deal with the you is it? Only FAS steal billions from our community(the government purse strings are open for FAS and give no oppurtunity for you or i to work) every year (so it is a pretty big deal to me)..FAS gives very little in return to the community (eg the likes of you and me),mulling over jobs and looking for the right job is important to many who can't afford to sit on thier arses..And i would be in agreement that FAS could ruin your career,i have been working in a lot of different areas, and i have to say i never come across such a bad workplace practices and people who are simply hired for the job who got in on a wink and a nod.Actually i have had some similiar negative experiences with FAS.
It is illegal to give a bad reference but i got one off FAS.When i complained to SIPTU..Good old FAS had one of their offices there.I would warn anybody against doing a FAS course or signing up for their 'employment' programmes, this is just a scam,do you think they are going to pay you when they have ur ass for free?Any employer would be skeptical of hiring a 'FAS graduate',do you know they have ex convicts 'working' in FAS?

Dont give me that yard of s*** that FAS give you work exp and a good name they drag it through the mud..

FAS HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OUR COMMUNITY THAT IS FOR SURE.

Not one person has been hired since doing one of these fas courses..yet they still persisted in taking the most decent chunk of cash off our FF gombeens in the Dail.
