iBook repair?

My mother tripped over the power cable yesterday and in the process her iBook G4 went flying to the ground. The screen's backlight is gone but the LCD is still working. The trackpad button is also FUBAR.

Now, I gave her this machine when I bought my Macbook Pro and she uses it to write reports and the odd internet surfing.

I am wondering is it a tough job to replace the CCFL bulb in the screen? Is it worth my while? Or is there anywhere in Dublin that could repair it?

(After a discussion, I am brining her today to see the iPad which I think would be perfect for a non techie person like her, but I would rather see her get a proper laptop. It might have to be a windows machine, but I am slowly convincing her to stay with the mac. The cost is a bit high for her though (especially considering her usage), which is why I suggested the iPad. It's either that or a similarly priced windows laptop. I'd like to repair the iBook regardless)

I'd say you'll find the repair cost on an iBook G4 will make it BER.......Would be better off looking out of a good s/h one on adverts I reckon. iPad sounds like the job, TBH, especially when wireless printing comes out in the next update.

I'd go for the cheapest used MacBook you can find on eBay. It has the "mag-safe" connector, which has survived many power cord trips for me!

Well, she went for the ipad in the end. It's perfect for what she needs, and she plans to get the keyboard and stand soon for typing in Pages.

I got a quote from a dublin repair co. for a replacement ibook screen - €220! A bit steep.

That is cheap. Apple's minimum repair on laptops back in the iBook days were over £400, I'm sure it was more for a screen.

I find a separate stand and a wireless keyboard works better than the dock, more expensive though. Am very happy with the Griffin A-Frame.
