    Season 3 Finale:

Sookie gives careful consideration to a life without vampires of any kind. While secretly planning a perfect payback for Russell, Eric deals with his feelings of right and wrong. Tommy's latest overstepping boundaries leaves Sam in a rage. A new vocation is in store for Jason after he warns Crystal's family about a potential drug raid. Jesus has something more to offer than just an interpersonal relationship when Lafayette comes to him for help. Hoyt ignores his mother and entertains plans for a future with Jessica.

They just totally wimped out on the potential death toll! So annoyed!!!

Dead - Calvin Norris & some other random hot shot fella

Potentially dead - Tommy (Please please let him be dead!)

Alive - Russell, Eric, Pam, the list is endless...

So Sookie saved Eric and Russell.
So they put Russell in cold storage because he was such a popular character.
So Bill rebelled against Eric and mucked it up.
    So Bill challenged the Queen.
Nothing was resolved in the vampire world!!!
And now we have Godric as Eric's conscience:rolleyes: I did like the fact the Eric didn't listen to him though:D

Why didn't they just kill Tara off instead of letting her ride off into the sunset?
    Good riddance to Crystal!

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed Sookie finally finding out about Bill. I like the fact that Russell can come back. But their regular cast is too large - they needed to kill a big portion of them off.

So next season will involve witches, fairies, Bill/the Queen dying, Jason protecting Hotshot inbreds, Hoyt's mum trying to kill Jessica, etc...
Looks like it'll have more storylines than this season:eek:

Forgive me for feeling that finale was a total cop out:
Best moment this series was between Russell ripping out the guy's spine and any one of Franklin's absolutely crazy episodes.

Hoyt will be dead next season i bet, his mum will kill him by mistake and Jessica will go postal!

The end left me quite numb, was expecting a Tara suicide attempt with all the goodbyes she was handing out. Will be interesting to see where she leads to next season.

Totally did not expect Bill trying to kill Eric, or his lieing to Soookay. Where does Sookie end up? Only have to wait 9 months to find out.... :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭shinny

I have to say this was such a disappointing Finale. The only bit that I enjoyed was Bill burying Eric only for him to come back later and let Sookie know everything.

Besides that is was pretty crappy to be honest.

I did love Crusty Russell and his taunting of Sookie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

Well that didn't really resolve.. anything.
Just opened even more stories. Not much of a season finale if it didn't actually resolve any of the main season story lines.

Looks like pretty much all the main characters are evil in some way too, even Sookie and her garbage disposal!

That was such a brutally bad finale.

"Your as mad as a .. a............ hatter" Well done Bill outstanding stuff

I couldn't even be bother wasting the energy pulling the episode apart but its pretty clear the show has lost its way. Awful, awful stuff!

Bad end to a below average season. Reminded me a bit of Dexter season 3 which was brutal compared to the first two, but season 4 of Dexter was the best, so maybe True Blood will go down the same route next season...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭MJRS

I enjoyed it.. I remember thinking the other finales had a lot of the storylines of the season resolved the episode before, and the actual last episode was more about setting up the next season. Not as good a finale as the others, but after such a good season I don't mind. Just gutted how Franklin left the show. Looking forward to the next season though! I'm nearly glad it wasn't an incredible episode with a crazy cliffhanger, at least now I can wait patiently for next year :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 479 ✭✭_JOE_

Finale was definitely a let down...Didn't compare with many of the episodes this season...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Most season finales of most shows don't tie things up,they leave cliffhangers for next year which is what happened here. Not sure why anyone was expecting things to be tied up.

I really liked how Bill buried Eric and I thought that would make for a great story next year so I was disappointed and annoyed when he escaped.

I wasn't expecting loads of deaths, although I thought they would kill of Russell.

Saying the show has lost is why is a bit mad, overall it has been a very entertaining season, probably the best one overall so far with the exception of the last 2 or 3 episodes which were average.

That includes this finale which was average but not bad by any means. It is just annoying having to wait so long to find out what happens. I really wanted to see Bill and the Queen fight.

So many things left unanswered :( Ball needs to stick to the books’ storylines so that things are wrapped up correctly.

I liked the Russell and Eric parts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

Just to be clear I didn't care about leaving cliffhangers or the like (This season most of them are so bad anyway I also don't care what happens). The episode itself had some of worst dialog I've ever heard, really ludicrous scenes and some of the worst character motivation ever. It was a complete train wreck in almost every aspect.

I think that was more the acting to be honest. Stephen Moyer can't act to save his life,Paquin aint to great either but she is fit so I can forgive her. That scene at the building site where Bill was talking was very cringey!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭MJRS

One thing that annoyed me was how, in the last few episodes, a tonne of flaws have been dropped into Bill's character, almost as if the writers wanted to spare themselves the blushes of having failed to create a likeable love interest, ha! I'd like to think Bill is being written out of the show, can you imagine how irritating he'll be next season if he's being shoe-horned into storylines without even being in a relationship with Sookie? Jaysus..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭Teddy_Picker

I agree with a lot of what's been said here, an irritatingly disappointing effort I have to say.

Stephen Moyer looks more out of his depth with every episode, I mean,
during the scene where Bill and Eric were burying Russell in concrete
, he was about as menacing as a teddy bear! :(

There was simply too much going on this series, and half the stories I could not care less about, like Jason's and Sam's for instance, which is a shame because I like both of them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

Bill turning out to be a bit of a bad egg after 3 seasons? It's different, I'll give them that.

I really liked the idea of ensuring that Russell suffers for a long, long, time. But maybe that's just the sadist in me. ;)

I don't like where Jason's character is going.

Eric is at a bit of a cross roads, hopefully he gets up to more than just following Sookie around again next season.

I'd agree with Jules, I reckon Hoyt will die, but I was expecting that to happen in this episode.

Sam shooting his brother just flies in the face of what they tried to establish for 10 episodes, so I don't like where that character is going either.

    Jesus the witch........meh.

The ending left me feeling nothing, this whole fairy thing is just fruity.

All in all, very disappointing finale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,027 ✭✭✭✭titan18

It was really poor tbh.Wasn't a great season imo either.

I like where the Vampire-Human storyline is going.I thought that was the best in the 3 seasons so far with the Godric stuff in season 2 so going back to that is cool. The rest is pretty meh tbh.Jason needs to go back to being funny and not trying to be serious and helping people. The Lafayette-Jesus storyline is boring,so is Arlene and the baby and Sam is just getting annoying.Should have killed off Tara in this episode, would have been shocking and seriously improved the show.

Fully agree. There doesn't seem to be any logic to his story at all. It's such a shame, as he was easily one of the best characters in season 1&2...

I think it may have something to do with this were-panther malark, it's overkill in terms of the supernatural world that exists within True Blood.

Re: Jesus, him being a witch might not be completely awful if he goes up against Holly. But as with everything though, good writing is key for making that work.

Very poor ending to this season. It was like they were trying to cram as much storylines in, hopefully next season is more interesting.

Meh. Too fragmented. The Eric, Russell and Hoyt bits were the only decent parts. It'll be interesting to see how the Hoyt, Jessica and the mother story will go. Nice creepy vibe with the discarded doll in their new home.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

poor finale. left me feeling a bit...meh.

they're dividing too much time between the storylines. should just concentrate on the main plot with Sookie, and develop the background characters little by little. it's more like everyone's getting equal time each episode and no story is really developed. it's costing the whole episode for a little bit of equal development.
like they did in the 2nd series. they did all that Fellowship of the Sun stuff first, while little by little Maryann's story was working in the background, and finally got its fully fleshed episodes toward the end.

they really need to start improving it. it started off good in the 3rd series but it wasn't giving enough time to each of the characters. better to have a "sookie" episode, then a "jason" episode....etc etc. doing too much each episode and it's become fragmented as Sarn said

    Too many minor characters!!!
The show wouldn't suffer if they got rid of Tara and Sam's storylines completely. They're just annoying (especially watching online when it won't load quickly and you can't forward through them!).
The ending with Bill and the Queen just wasn't necessary either. Way too much time spent on filler scenes and not enough on the main plot lines. Half the episode didn't add to the story at all. Overall entertaining, I really wasn't expecting
    Bill's attempt to kill Eric
, but otherwise not enough relevant action.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,114 ✭✭✭doctor evil

    'Watch your f*cking language'
    Class line:D

Slightly underwhelmed by the finale, but I don't think the point of this episode was to be overwhelming. I reckon there will be one series left, it would be a shame if it just kept going on and on.

I loved what they did with Russell, I guessed that Bill (who is certainly one dimensional, so easy to spot 'bad bill' when he dresses in black) intended to deal with Eric.

Series four could be when the characters deal more with themselves internally than a major external foe.

I love how they have the multiple story lines, lots of different angles. It would get very boring if it was all 'Soookay'

Watching it right now and I am boooooored...

It wasn't what I expected I must say, and the two week wait didn't help with the momentum either. Some episodes have been outstanding this season. This wasn't one of them.
Still, it was good to see Sookie and Bill's characters become a little darker and it will be interesting to see where it goes now. Hopefully Sookie gets together with Alcide. I can't see her getting back with Bill now. Maybe she will get it on with Eric ?
    I wouldn't mind that either.

I'm kind of glad they didn't kill Russel off. I hoped they wouldn't kill Franklin but they did. I hoped they'd kill Tara and they didn't !!!
I hope they don't kill Hoyte or Jessica for that matter !!!!

9 Month wait now sucks !!

Overall it was underwhelming, probably because there was too much Tara... I mean, what the heck was that scene with her cutting her hair? Ooooh, the drama of it all . I think they were trying to make it seem like she might kill herself but they already teased us with that in this season and didn't deliver...

Sorry to see what has become of Jason too, one of my favorite characters but a completely useless storyline. I hope Hickville gets firebombed next season so he can move onto something else.

Lafayette's storyline was also entirely setup then - his whole meet up with Jesus essentially delivered nothing for this season. Hopefully it'll turn out good next year, because his character rocks.

I wonder what the deal with Sookie's maniacal laughter while chucking Talbot-in-a-jar down the drain was? A sign that she is becoming corrupted by the darkness of the vampires (and the gallons of V she has guzzled)? And was the chandelier thingy meant to be a UFO or something (Bill did say the Fae were aliens)...

Not a terrible episode overall, but underwhelming for a finale and none of the "cliffhangers" have me particularly excited for next year at this point, so it'll be easier to endure the wait...

Didn't seem like a finale at all. I have a bad feeling True Blood could be a victim of its own success. Some of the story lines were utterly pointless, if you cant wrap up a dull storyline like Tara's in one season then why bother at all!?

I'm being very pessimistic here but I've seen this happen before with other TV shows. Multiple story lines branching out everywhere so episodes jump frantically from one 2 minute scene to the next as they struggle to maintain viewer interest and try to tell all the stories. I can see True Blood being dragged out for years to come and the quality will decline rapidly as they milk it for all its worth :( I hope I'm wrong

You've seem Heroes too?, I can see your point and have to agree this season started great and had compelling episodes but when it came to the end of the season the writing just let it down.

Irritating characters just like Tara turns me off TV shows and but the writers give her even more pointless scenes. Jason had a total turn around this season he's now a 1 women man. The vampire scenes are generally good mainly due to Eric and Russell.

Interesting to see how the show progresses next year and even though its 9 months away I'm not that excited now as I was before. Overall a good season but the last couple of episodes left it down.

But the books are utter drek! (IMO)

I think the problem with this finale was that the big reveal about what Sookie is came too early, they could probably have gotten away with ending the series on the "I know what you are" line, having it in the middle of the series gave them the opportunity to do the 'vampire crack' bit, but left them without enough time to actually do anything with it; leading to a weak series ending.

Ah, we'll see how it goes. As long as Eric occasionally gets his shirt off I'm not too bothered about storylines :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭cabrwab

Poor ending to the season that had its up's and downs.
I think Tara should've being killed off rather then the Dawsons creak driving off for the summer to find myself.

I like where Sam's character is going its being teased out he's got a dark side tommy released that and now looks like he crossed it.

Sookie going looney with talbot was actually good crazy acting I thought.

Perfect end to the season would be Russell ripping the spine out scene.
We'd all be frothing at the mouth for season4.
    Instead the season limped out.

Still not as bad as heroes season3.

It was the tough third album. It was 2.5 stars overall!

I'm in two minds as to whether I want them to salvage the mess or go completely overboard and make it brain candy like Nip/Tuck.

Evil Bill is the only good Bill; is there anyone who watches the show who actually enjoys his simpering and fawning?

Eric was always better in smaller, concentrated doses. The same for Jason and Andy - if they're not going to give them a great storyline, then don't give them so much screentime.

Tara should take the opportunity to FOAD.

If they're going to have good crazy characters like Russell and Franklin, why must they kill them or bury them in concrete? This is not clever - people watch TV because they like the bad guys being on the loose and posing a threat.

Paquin and Moyer should cancel the honeymoon and get acting lessons. Paquin has gone backwards since her Oscar 17 years ago and to be honest she's not a very good looking woman either, so she has very little appeal.

Sam is potentially one of the most intriguing characters. Unfortunately they seem to go out of their way to make him likeable just long enough for us to get interested in his story before throwing the arsehole switch.

Lafayette - it kills me to see the best character on the show reduced to this.

Pretty poor season finale compared to the other two which left me frothing at the mouth for more.

It started off pretty good but seemed to go down hill with every episode. Far to many unnecessary storylines which could've been used elsewhere. I def think they could've done more with the warewolves they just seemed to disappear, mid way through!!!

I do think they could've killed off Tara, glad they killed off Franklyn as he annoyed me, probably because he made Tara more annoying with her whaling!!!

I thought Lafayettes story might get wrapped up this season but apparently not, I hope it gets better next season and Jesus turns out to be bad!!! I think they forgot about the other witch in this episode although I am curious to know what she done to the baby!!!!

Most Def agree Hoyt will get killed and Jessica will go A Wall, which could make her character more interesting but all depends how they write it.

Best bit of the Season probably a tie between the spine been ripped out and
Sookie dumping Talbot down the sink,
I think Sookie pulled off the sadistic look quiet well for a change.

I hope they realise that everyone was pretty disappointed with this Series and make in right in Season 4!!!!

Surely Eric had to escape before the concrete hardened other wise it would be pretty hard to explain a comeback next year! Plus if they followed the same route as most other shows they would have him buried but return after 10 minutes of the following seasons opener ,hardly original!

Too much of a villian totally ruins the show ie Silar in Heroes. How many times did he die but comeback? A new villain each season is much better if you ask me

Just watched it now.. absolute trash of the highest degree!

Quite possibly the worst True Blood episode in it's 3 seasons! :( And that's something that should be said of a season finale.

What in sweet frig has happened Alan Ball's writing in this episode? I know it's been mentioned already but it really was some of the most dire trashiest odd writing that man has ever committed to paper. The amount of cringeworthy lines in it:

    'You watch your f*cking language!'
'Don’t even think about it, bitch.'
'Go crawl back into your holes you creepy, cold freaks!'
'Go back to hell where you came from, you f*cking dead piece of sh*t.'

And my personal favourite: 'Your as mad as a f*cking hatter!' (seriously.. that's the best Alan could come up with me.. even "as safe as a hatter" would have been better!)

Really awful stuff.. the writing was poor, characters were being written off and cast out with no resolution of storyline. Everything felt like it was leading up to something.. but it never came. It was all just so fragmented!

Awful awful stuff. Really disappointed! :(

Well he could have been missing for a while, I don't read the books but the actor that plays Alcide mentioned in an interview that in the books
Eric actually gets trapped in the concrete and goes insane
Don't know if that's true or not and I don't want to get too into the books on this thread but it would have been more interesting than what happened.

No, nothing remotely like what happened in the episode happened in the books, Alan Ball has gone way out on his own with the various storylines, and he's not making a great fist of it TBH.

Boring episode, and lacking in the senses

How could Eric be in tears over Godrick, but then let his revenge overtake that

Then Crystals future husband killed the cousin and the Dad no bother, but then he stalls and ends up not shooting Jason, the one guy he actually despises

I musta been the only one who didnt think is a suicide attempt when Tara had the scissors! New haircut is numero uno for these new life stories :P

Only thing revealed was that Arlene is prob right about havin an evil bambino!

The only thing this show has going for it at this stage are its theme song and Jessica, after the failure to follow up the one good thing in a hugely dissapointing season (the Russell spine ripping scene) I'm pretty much done with this show .

If it turns out that Sookie is an angel or a fairy or something equally corny I will be very annoyed!!!!

Huh, well I have watched the rest of the episodes now and this comment I made earlier now seems kinda ironic... When I said 'fairy' I was actually joking lol... Bit disappointed with the finale but I'm just so glad Eric is still alive (well, alive for a vampire, y'know what I mean) it almost makes up for it :o:o:o
