PP had a screen up today saying somebody won 280,000 on Saturday.
    Wonder what that was on?
My guess a Lucky 15 with 4 big priced horse winners.

Yeah, someone got the lotto numbers in the order they were drawn.

Crazy odds. 90 million to one or something.

I just don't know why he didn't do the same number on the lotto.

    Why would you do that?

    10c bet :pac:

I predict the 90,000,000/1 is using some crazy combo like they picked the numbers exactly in the order they came out instead of anyway.

e.g. 1,4,6,9,10 and the numbers came out that way even though they would have won if the numbers came out 6,9,10,1,4. PP making it sound better odds. even 10cent would have won 900,000 so we are down to 3 cent bets but somehow it was a 6 x €2 bets so you have

A punter at a Paddy Power betting shop in Dublin managed to choose five of the six numbers drawn in the Irish Lotto main draw and turn a series of small bets into a pay day of over a quarter of a million Euro. The lottery player placed his a Lottery “lucky numbers” bet in a shop in South Dublin and managed to choose the five final numbers drawn in the main draw on Saturday night.
The wager was made up of six €2 bets, which included three bets on all numbers drawn (including the bonus ball) and three bets on the six numbers chosen in the main part of the draw.
The first number drawn was seven (which the punter hadn’t chosen in any of his lines) and it seemed like it would be a normal lottery draw for the player. Then, a remarkable series of numbers turned it into a night to remember for the South Dublin man. The following numbers came out: 3, 12, 21, 26, 36, all of which were chosen by the player in one of his €2 lines to make him the biggest winner of the evening in the Irish Lotto as no-one won the jackpot.
Just matching the first three numbers won the player €1,754 while the addition of the fourth number added an extra €19,004 to his prize and the fifth and final ball he matched added a whopping €260,004 to the total prize.
Paddy Power said in a news release, “The odds of clicking five consecutive Lotto numbers are about 90 million to one – that’s how jammy this punter is, unbelievable! I can’t wait to meet them and try to get a rub of good luck for myself. It’s not the worst thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning!”

    That's no excuse.
If the odds of it happening were 90 million to one, then those odds should have been offered.

    A bet's a bet.

the odds of it happening were 90 million to one ....doesnt mean they were offering 90 million to one !!

You've got a 90,000,000/1 chance of predicting 5 consecutive numbers in the lotto! That wasn't the bet though, he bet on them to come out in any order. Don't think any bookies take bets on consecutive numbers... well, maybe in India!

Maybe they could give better odds if they didn't keep so much for themselves. Poor oul Brian Cowen gets only peanuts compared to these boys.

    There's 45 numbers ye?
So the odds of picking 6 numbers, in the same order as they come out is
    1
    45*44*43*42*41*40

so you've a 1 in 6 billion chance of doing so.

You have to get the 1st one right, so there's a 1 in 45 chance of doing that.
Then you've a 1 in 44 chance of getting the 2nd one correct...

PP should really give me a job

    edit:
5 numbers from 5 in any order after the 1st ball has been drawn - the probability is 1 in...

    44*43*42*41*40
    5*4*3*2

    a million

PP's earnings per share rose 31% and interim dividends rose 28% this year, the execs will be in for more hefty bonuses and deservedly so.

the odds are being taken out of context.
the 90 million to 1 are either the odds of the 5 numbers coming out in the specifc chronological order, or the odds of them being the first 5 out (it's hard to figure out specifically which from hte article.
the odds of getting all 5 up is only about 200,000/1

Still he's alot happier than the 104 people who matched 5 with the national lottery, they only got €810

Now I remember why I stopped doing the Irish Lotto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭useless

yea but didnt the folks who got €810 pick 6 numbers and got 5/6 correct? And the punter chose 5 numbers and all 5 came up?
    Different odds altogether...

and they had a chance of winning the lotto while he didn't
