Hi i need to have wisdom tooth out badly and i was told only wednesday gone that medical card doesnt cover it anymore , its gna cost 1,009 eur coz i opted for being knocked out :0 its crazy .. the only thing thats covered is 1 emergency extraction and filling per year.. cleaning and 'cosmetic' work is not covered anymore...its a disgrace !!!

that is pure madness!!!! this fu*king country... so bascailly they have, you could say got rid of dental work off the medical card. it might not as bad if they cut the cost's of dental work but that will not happen. yet they will still complain about us then going up north or even abroad getting work done..... grrr
sorry just on a bit of a rant here

I think they only do the bare minimum there as well.
Anything they consider cosmetic, they won't do.

that's all wrong. you're entitled to as many emergency extractions as neccessary, but only one exam and two emergency fillings per year. anything else requires prior approval from the hse. it's been done to death in other threads here.
the only reason the wisdom tooth would cost that much is if you saw a specialist oral surgeon which would be private, unless you want to join a waiting list of over a year.

ballysmchugh just explained the situation. if you require further clarification contact the hse.

say you needed 3 fillings would a dentist have to extract the third tooth even if all it needed was a filling.

No, the dentist can apply to the HSE to pay for the third filling, or you could pay for it privately.

Can anyone recommend a dentist in Dublin who accepts the medical card? Thanks.
