MacBook Pro battery question

Trying to figure out if it's my battery or my charger which has f**ked up on me. So quick question:

Should my MacBook pro run if I take the battery out and leave the charger plugged in?

I ask because I'm getting the "Not Charging" indictator next to the battery icon. It's not charging.... It also cuts out after a couple of minutes. I tried resetting the SMC no difference.

MacBook won't even start now so I can't give you any of the Info from system profiler. But it's not runnin on the power adaptor alone

    Yes, I believe it should.

But that comes from practical experience with other laptops. My macbook battery cannot be removed so I'm not 100% certain on that. But I'm well over 95% certain. :D

Did the battery drain by itself (because it wasn't charging), or did it die suddenly?

The battery drained by itself. I left in sleep mode over night it had 20% when I turned it on, plugged it in. I didn't notice the "Not charging" message until I got the pop up saying I was on reserve power.

Sounds like the adapter is the problem.
