Hey guys my Birthday is coming up and I am thinking of getting the Iphone 4 from the wife. Anyway just wondering is it worth the change? Is there really a reception issue? I am with O2 and will be staying with them bye the way.

the battery life on the 4 seems to be better than the 3gs, but thats not hard really

There are a few threads like this around here. Check out any other iPhone4 / 3GS related threads also.

I'd wait until the 30th of September to see if they replace the 'Free iPhone 4 Case Programme' with a 'Working iPhone 4 out of the box' programme.

Have my iphone 4 a few weeks now and no reception issue, most people use some sort of case anywah which i hear gets rid of the issue. Great phone by the way :)

Not going to happen, if they fixed the issue (a simple matter of coating the antenna with a non conductive paint) there would be millions of people looking for a swap.

The best we can hope for on the antenna front is in the next generation.

Stay with the 3GS I am not liked around here for some thing

But I have had 3 broking iPhone 4s before I got a working one

But I got a free 8gb neno and a mac mini for it

But I had a 3GS before that to me it was a bitter phone

And for some reason the iPhone desides to show posts from about 4 hours before

the problem with old posts is the cache, delete all network history and it'll work

op dont listen to sam, he is a notorious liar or just very unlucky

I live in a rural area and 3G and E in 02 change 100s of times a day and I have never dropped a call or lost signal on my iPhone 4 no matter which way I hold it. Storm in a tea cup I reckon.

I switched from a 3G to a 4 and the difference was amazing. Having read all the threads on here though I don't think the leap from 3GS to 4 is that much.

Samapple789, if you wish to continue to contribute to these boards, I'd caution you to quit stirring it up. Your modus operandi seems to be post once, report a post within minutes after receiving a reply. For someone of fairly recent vintage as a poster, you seem remarkably well-versed in forum etiquette and as I have previously observed, there is a very marked difference in your public dyslexia and that of your complaints, all of which causes me to raise a quizzical eyebrow.

Perhaps a more enlightened discussion of your devices might invite less harsh responses while at the same time, I would ask everyone else to refrain from accusations of lying. However, continue in the manner and pattern which you have established and I will take action.

I hope we understand one another.

I'm not that bothered bout the camera, but the rest interests me....

I'm not so sure about that. If you accepted a case your effectively shot yourself in the foot by 'taking the bribe'.
Any customer who bought the first batch of iPhones knew there was an issue with attenuation and once they had
chosen to keep their devices for 31 days were more or less accepting it. Case and point :D

If/when Apple do a redesign, fine they might have 3 months of unhappy customers. Most of which can be told to
feck off because they accepted the solution in the form of an external case. The fact remains that they will have
9 months of very pleased customers who they won't have any issues with signal strength, bluetooth or the
    proximity sensor.

They also save costs on people like Samapple who says he has had 4 iPhones at this stage and has received
compensation of an iPod and and a Mac mini (on boards) and an ipad (on the O2 forum) neither of which i
believe for a minute. However he and a lot of customers would cost Apple a fortune in UPS shipping
    sending back and forth iPhones.

Personally i think an antenna hardware fix is coming because they delayed the white one. Probably saying
to themselves whats the point in releasing with the dodgy bits.

I have been proven wrong before though ;)

Oh and on the topic at hand . . .

I was one of the unlucky ones with a massive problem with dropping calls.
It was dropping more than it was keeping. If it wasn't the proximity sensor
cutting me off with my ear to the iPhone it was holding it 'the wrong way'
(the way i held every phone including the 3gs) Im not going to stop now!
regardless of whether steve jobs tells me or not.

While a Zagg full body invisible shield did remedy the problem i wasn't
prepared to put up with it. Since gone back to 3GS.

If Apple do a redesign of the antenna i'll buy another one after a month
or two. If they don't i'll keep the 3GS and wait until next year.

Fantastic phone pitty about having to pay €699 and still not know what
hand your going to be dealt. I'd say its discouraging a lot of people.

I just upgraded from a 32gb 3GS to a 16GB V4 and so far I'm loving it. It feels smaller, lighter & faster. The camera is much better.

BUT because of the amount of glass I'm terrified of dropping it. I've no case on it at the moment as they didnt have anything I liked in the shop but I'm going to get something today if I can.

If you have nothing else in mind its worth it but if youre happy with the 3GS then youre not missing much either.
