The Reverend Ian Paisley has Urged the British Goverment to Cancel next weeks state welcome for the pope

In an exclusive interview with Sky News, the former first minister of Northern Ireland also reveals he had tried to dissuade Tony Blair from converting to Catholicism when he was still Prime Minister

Dr Paisley said of the Pope's visit: "They are receiving him as a king. He's not a king.

It is not the first time that the Free Presbyterian preacher has protested at the presence of the Pontiff.

And he says the child abuse scandals have justified his lifelong opposition to Rome.

Paisley told Sky News that Tony Blair confided in him before converting to Catholicism

Paisley said: "I was the last Protestant minister that spoke to the Prime Minister the night before he was made a Roman Catholic.

"He turned to me and said 'I will be a Roman Catholic tonight'.

Paisley probably has that effect on quite a few people.

I bet Blair did that just to piss him off.

I find this very difficult... I don't want the Pope to receive a state welcome... but I don't want to ever agree with Paisley on anything... what to do what to do...

I'd say he goes to bed at night thanking his god that abuse within the catholic church occurred.. it's not a moral position that he holds, it's purely sectarian. Himself and Benny should both gtfo

That hate inciting bastard can go to hell. I'm pretty much a militant atheist as they come, but I'd give the Pope a warm welcome and treat him as a king before I'd even shake hands with Paisley.

    I can picture the scene:

A dark, candle lit room furnished with dark mahogany and gold coloured robes. It is midnight and the moon casts a silver glow on the window.

Blair is sitting with a look of concern on his face. Wearing some form of Toga, illuminated only by the candle light.

Paisley is a somewhat distant looking figure who emerges from the dark corner of the room. He has a cream robe on with the hood up.

Blair becomes uneasy, not helping was the sound of his chair creaking, as if to convey his discomfort.

He stands behind Blair who is looking away from him.

Paisley asks: "What will you be tonight my boy?"

Blair, with a certain unease responds: "I will be a Roman Catholic tonight".

Paisley's face remains rock solid as the response is uttered. Blair continues to look away.

    They then have sex.

Thanks. I now have snot on my monitor.

On Topic: I don't know. Should they put on a state welcome? He is the head of a state, and the head of the Catholic church. Do I like him? Not really.

For once I find myself agreeing with Paisley, no state reception for the Pope. But perhaps an invite to Scotland yard for some questioning?

I wouldn't welcome him, he's just pure evil.

I think some geriatric version of Celebrity Deathmatch could resolve the issue once and for all.

I think if Paisley would just meet the Pope, his view might be changed. I think they would become 2 great friends. Two fascist bigotted bastards....why wouldn't they enjoy each others company?

What IS it with religious personnel coming out with controversial crap and trying to get media attention these days?!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Sounds more like he ignored him rather than confided in him...

Ian's just jealous - he himself would do anything to be treated as a king.

Flock is thinning a bit in every religion except Islam.

The Western world is typically Christian and now people are getting more educated in developed countries and realising it's all utter rubbish. Not so in the developing world and ****holes like Afghanistan were an ignorant population are easily radicalised.

Not that I care whether the pope get's a warm welcome or not. But I think people should really think about who they are listening to when they agree with Ian Paisley. A lot of people who might agree with Ian paisley, probely only agree because of their own views on the pope and catholic church so it's easy to agree with him.

However the way I see it. Ian Paisley has always been an enemy of the pope and catholic chruch. He has always openly expressed his hating and secetarian ways, so it's no surprise that he would say something like that. But to agree with him, is absurd. While you may think his words right now are right, they are for the wrong reasons. He does it because of his own personal feeling and not simply because he is speaking for the people. He does it, because he is a bigot.

Never side with a man whose judgment is made up of hate because their views will always be biased and one sided

What he says is true. Regardless of WHY HE SAYS it. A rapist could say something which is true, you might not like him but you can still agree with what he says.
