The British public are being asked for a contribution(its actually an entrance fee) of €30 to see the Pope at his final mass in Bermingham , because of a shortfall in funds for his British trip. So much for the trip being a pilgrimage to spread the faith!! If you ever needed proof that the Catholic church were nothing more than a money grabbing corporation, this is it. Its a wonder they havn't sold the tv rights to Sky. I hope the British people tell them where to go.

:pac: the rights would be worth feck all even the near total disinterest is maintained. Pope JP2s pastoral visit in 1982 was practically show-biz, this one will be no-biz.

Hey it's not so bad, apparently for your €30 you get a "Pilgram Pack" - a bag containing a CD and a book about the visit.

I bet the bag is **** cool like this one http://images8.cpcache.com/product/72720028v10_480x480_Front.jpg

For the Glasgow visit it is 20quid. This includes transport from your parish. The money is being used subsidise those who have to travel from a distance. No profit will be made.

I would imagine the Birmingham arrangements will be similiar but lets not let the details get in the way of AH catholic bashing.

    I can see it now....

*Pope arrives late out on stage for a rendition of his 1987 hit "Welcome to the Sermon"*

*Audience member hurls a small boy at him, which hits the pope on the shoulder*

    "Ok, here's the deal.
One more child, we go home,"
    "It's up to you,"
"We want to stay, we want to have some fun.
If you don't want to have fun, all you got to do is let us know, we got no problem.
    We'll go on our way."

*Crowd continues to boo and swear and the pope eventually leaves the stage, saying: "Have a good evening."*

*An announcer says: "We're trying hard to get Pope Benny back on stage. I would ask you please to refrain from throwing children at him."*

I seen this on sky news yesterday and they were shocked to see only 20% of the 2500 tickets put aside for the irish were not bought just goes to show how sick people are of the church

The pope can go and fcuk himself looking for money so he can lord it up in the Vatican with his wine and alter boys

The money's going towards transport costs, I don't see a problem with it to be honest.

    Where's Bermingham?

Apparently the fact that it is to subsidise transport costs will be lost in the group-think of Catholic bashing.

Microsoft don't claim to be something they're not

They claim that normal people developed Windows 7. Which is not true.

Transport costs for who? If I want to go and see the pope I'll still have to spend €30 for the pleasure, on top of my own travel expenses.

If parishes are organizing coaches then why can't they arrange for payments locally, rather than charge everyone an entrance fee?

I'd rather have free Windows than go and see the pope, perhaps they can work out some kind of sponsorship deal between themselves.

He better play at least two hours, including the drum solo and the 15 - minute version of "Hotel California", for that kind of money.

The individual. Each parish was given a number of tickets and you had to apply to get one.

This was all decided by the parishioners of the church. It was agreed that everyone should pay the same. The travel cost of say Aberdeen to Glasgow is obviously a lot more than Glasgow,Lanarkshire etc. It was decided that everyone should pay the same to help the folks from far away.

If you had a problem with this you should have raised it at your local parish council meetings. As far as i know everybody was in agreement with this arangement.

I dont see anything wrong with that tbh. If they need the money they need the money.

    No one has to pay.

But what I supposed to do with all these "Pay to Pray? No Way!" signs that I've had made? They cost me £30 each.

This reminds me of my job in Glasgow when old Harry the Rangers fans told the story about how all Catholics in Scotland supported Hitler and Celtic Park used to leave the floodlights on so the German bombers could use it as a beacon to bomb the Clydebank ship yards.

Stupid old fecker but a loveable rogue. Celtic Park never had floodlights when the war was on...............:pac:
