Is a 40GB PS3 worth it.

I have been offered a 40GB PS3 for a very good price and need to know is 40GB good enough. I see the latest PS3's have 120 and 250GB. I only thing I intend using it for is games and watching Blu Rays. I have no interest in storing movies, pictures etc on it.
I am just wondering do you have to install games on the hard drive or can you just play them from disk

If you dont intend storing on anything on it you will be fine, Some games require installs but most of them dont. If your thinking about getting GT5, remember it will have the option of a 10gb install to speed up loading times.

My advice to you if you can is to find a fat 60gb as these had the ps2 emulator and you will be able to play ps2 games.

    a 40 gb isn't worth the hassle.
its pretty susceptable to ylod as its an older model
the oldest model i'd get would be a 80gb.
save your money and get a slim the extra few euro is worth it for peace of mind and reliability

The price of this is €270 with 11 good games and 2 blu rays and 2 controllers
    Games Include:

Call of Duty World at War
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
    Little Big Planet
    Assassins Creed
    Killzone 2

and a good mixture of other games from different categorys

its a really good price alright but what i'd be thinking is reiability
Is it someone you know well selling it to you if it is go ahead and if you don't know them well the ps3 might be on its way out and its somebody offloading it before it loses its value and breaks.

I've an older model. I had a 60GB hardrive which ended up almost full sue to a combination of installs from games and downloading stuff from PSN. You could always buy a larger hard drive and install it. It wont cost too much.

Buy a hard drive if you're worried bout running out of space. I have a 320 gb hard drive.

im moving my movie collection to my PS3 because it just looks better for some reason.

I've had my 40gb for over two years now and had no problems with it. AFAIK, the older games took up a lot more space on the drive when installing but the latest games use up little space.

As already stated, you can always buy more space if you needed it.

I don't know the guy but I will be getting to try it out before I pay for it. Also I've built every PC I own for the last 10 years so upgrading this hard drive shouldn't be a problem for me. I just bought a 2TB hard drive there also.

yeah i'd get it and get an external hard drive for it if you begin to run out of space. also i've heard playstation are bringing out online storage where you can save your games and its unlimited space i think...
someone will have to verify that tho, i'm not certain....
was in smiths this week looking for a ps3 and was told to wait a week cos they are getting new ones in and they'll have better deals... don't know the specifics just have to wait and see. this is for 120gb and upwards...

They are replacing the 120GB and 250GB versions with 160GB and 320GB with the prices not changing from what they are.

Can anybody recommend good places to trade in a 40GB for a larger model? Is there a thread on latest deals or anybody know off the top of their heads?

    Cheers

I'd flog it on adverts.ie rather then trade it in, your more likely to get more cash there then the trade in value at Gamestop and the like.
