i know you could lamp all year round but i dont fancy lamping in the summer out to late when working the next day and if you lamp in the summer and the dog kills rabbits your only killing rabbits in young and destroying the fun for the winter
i know a lot of lads that ferret lamp and shoot every rabbit out of an area and then complain there is no rabbits after that

here is the link for the lamp

Son had the LF 170 for the scope. A great lamp has to be said. He sold it for a LED torch. I the meantime I bought a UCaller NightEye handheld lamp. I see this to be a clone/copy of the LF170 in every way.
I use it for scaning the fields and I have a LED torch fitted to the scope for the final shot.

The son sold off his LED torch, mainly because I had a torch fitted, and got himself the UCaller night eye as well.
IMO these lamps are as good as the LF170 but I don't think they do a scope mounted version as I have only seen the hand held type. They can be had for €59 in Stakelums in Thurles.

Got this kit from Deben with the stock mounted dimmer and lithium battery and is good does not have the range of the lightforce but is compact and light weight for the gun and you dont even notice the battery.

looks the job alright...how far out can you shoot with the lamp on a clear night?

You can see a fox clearly out to 200 so its good enough I use a lightforce for scanning and the switch to Deben the one extra bit I have ordered is a aluminium mount for going onto the scope as the one on the kit tends to roll back and forth but its only about £7 extra

i am using one of the deben lithium ion battery pack i know they are very expensive compared to sealed batterys but the deben pack is well worth the money
i have been out lamping for nearly 3 hours with the deban pack and the lamp dont get dimmer as the battery dies when its dead it will just stop working but that has not happened to me yet

just an update the ucaller lamp came today and it looks the very same as the lightforce 170 apart from the on\off switch its located at the back on the ucaller
but comparing the spot of the two side by side the lightforce wins
the spot on the ucaller is slightly wider even when adjusted to give the tightest spot possible but its still a very good lamp for the money
but if you can afford the extra few euro i would recommend getting the lightforce

If ya pull out the bulb a little, it will tighten up the spot. I have the scope mounted version and I have to do it from time to time as the bulb keeps going into the last with the recoil I suppose. I noticed first when I would screw the LF focusing bell right in and it would still have a darker point in the middle.

just some advice if you are doing this never touch the halogen bulb with bare skin always use a clean cloth or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,676 ✭✭✭kay 9

Agree, or else the bulb will blow or it's life will be shortened. Forgot to mention that. Cheers...

If you do touch the bulb, use a bit of alcohol on a tissue and clean the bulb.
What happens is that the grease carbonises on the quartz and causes a localised heat buildup which can damage the filament.

Didn't know that one Cj, cheers again...
