Hi there, I've seen a lot of ads here for all kind of music but not too many about acid jazz/funky style. I would love to meet up with musicians with great musical imagination and either start by playing covers or making new music in the styles of Erykah Badu, Jamiroquai, Jill Scott, Incognito, D'Angelo, Saadiq and similar, maybe mixed with some Aretha Franklin and George Michael sometimes. I'm a vocalist myself and love improvising and been singing for 15 years and would love to start thinking of making an album with that kind of music.

I'm based in Bray but can travel, any musicians dying to let their creativity fly interested in meeting up?

Probably most important at the moment would be a bass player who loves Erykah Badu's grooves, a funky drummer and guitar player!

Ahhh now I see I missed that in your original post. When you say you've been singing for fifteen years what is your background? Have you sung in any bands before? Have you any interest in what I've proposed in my thread?

could you please link your thread so I can have a look?

I've been singing in bands for 15 years, for last 7 being a member of Dublin Gospel Choir, last 2 years being a musical director of Greystones Studios Gospel Choir and now Bray Gospel Choir. I'm also a vocal coach (www.voicestudio.info) and a wedding singer.

I've taught guitar and music theory in Greystones Studios a couple of times as a substitute guitar teacher for my friend. I may have bumped into you there.

could be. I'm more into the jazzier side of funky, my friends are doing a brilliant show Story of Motown and I don't want to go exactly in that direction :) do you have any other musicians lined up? i find it very hard to find grooving musicians who still have time for another project and have good skills

hey, I'm a guitarist, actually living in bray too. I've been playing for about 7-8 years and am definitely interested in the kind of band you are talking about. I play mostly jazz and blues but have been toying with the idea of forming a funk type band for ages now. Ive spent the last year in London studying music in a college in greenwich there, got to form a band for the year and we did a lot of gigging and i've also done some gigs since i've been back home. Really want to get some regular practice and gigging going soon though. let me know if your interested or my mobile number is 0852050946 if you want to get in touch. Cheers!

thought i'd list some influences: joe pass, new mastersounds, kenny burrell, wes montgomery and loads of old jazz players and newer funk/jazz stuff like herbie hancock etc.

    luke.

    Hey Magdee,

We met in greystones some time ago in Bochellis. I was trying to get something together but failed to get the musicians together. I am a drummer that is into the music that you mentioned in the post.

I'd love to get together with the guitarist and yourself when you are meeting.

    Best,

    Robin
