Are you allowed drive abroad once you have your pink licence? I was thinking about taking my car to France next year, but I'd only have the full licence 10 or 11 months. I ask because a lot of car hire places will only hire you a car if you have the licence 2 years

Your license is valid in other countries. As you said, most car hire companies require you to have a license for 2 years or more, and a lot would have age restrictions, a minimum age of 23 or 25 would be common.
It'll be a case of just ringing around i think.

You can take your own car abroad with a full license. Just check with your insurance company that your policy allows you to drive the car abroad.

However, if you were to hire a car, a lot of the hire car companies require you to be a minimum age (e.g. 23-25) and have your full license for 2 years minimum.

When driving in France there are a few things you need to do and carry.

You need to fit headlight deflectors to you car to redirect the main beam away from oncoming traffic.

It's compulsory to carry with you a warning triangle & at least one hi-vis vest. You can get an on the spot fine if you don't.

Lastly you need to display an IRL sticker on your car.

Also be aware that the speed limit on the motorway can change depending on the weather - 110km/h in rain/wet and 130 km/h in the dry

Hi vis vest for each person iirc, one at least to be kept inside the car, ie not in the boot.
IRL sticker not necessary if you have EU reg plate, ie the one with the EU flag.
You also need to carry a complete set of replacement bulbs.
Its not like Ireland, these rules ARE enforced.

I got the info from a pdf from The AA website and experience of driving in France. Bulbs are a recommendation not a requirement according to The AA
