Is opening your eyes underwater a good way to get used to contact lenses?

I haven't been able to get contacts in yet, as my blink reflex is still too strong, but since lenses are about 60% or 70% water, should I practice opening my eyes underwater to get used to the feeling? I never open my eyes underwater as I hate the feeling and find it uncomfortable, but if it meant I could prepare my eyes for the feeling of contact lenses then I'm willing to try it. Anyone any thoughts on whether this would help?

If it's your blink reflex that's too strong I'd recommend practising touching the white of your eye to get used to your finger coming towards your eye.

I've spent the past week practising touching the white of my eye, and I can now do it fairly comfortably and hold my finger on the white of my eye for a few seconds at least. However when I try to put the lense in my blink reflex kicks in again. I guess I'll just have to keep trying.

Here's a tip from an Optician (not me the wife) try holding onto your lashes and not the lids as she has seen holding the lids fail time and time again. This will better control the blink reflex. Have fun and keep us posted

won't your eyelashes rip off if you hold on to them like that?

It's hard to describe but simple answer is no. I watched my wife demonstrate last night how it's done. Instead of pressing you finger against your eyelid to hold it open you open your eyes wide then turn your lid so your lashes are resting against your skin then press the lashes with your finger against your skin Your blink reflex will still try to kick in but you will have better control and your eyes will be opened wider allowing easier insertion of the lens.
