yeah. As long as you have the points and there are vacant places, you can transfer. There is a deadline, it was mid october last web iirc.

thanx for answering but there are no vacant places on the CAO website so i'm worried i won't get offered a place. what do you think my chances are of getting a place.

It's not advertised on the CAO as vacant places. Often people switch course early in first year (I did it).

You'll get something from Trinity giving details about your tutor, get in contact with them early and let them know that you want to transfer.

The bigger courses generally let you in (assuming points is OK) since there's never a massive issue with one extra person. I know I was the 186th person to enter engineering when I did it, even though the quota was 175 or so iirc.

So get in contact with your tutor. It's a first come first filled policy (or it was anyways) so get moving before college on this.

I can't comment on the recent rules - I finished in Trinity 3 years ago at this stage (time flies). But yeah, on my memory it's first come first served.

If you have the details for your tutor, give them a call or an e-mail to ask about it. If you can't see them, you can go to the Senior Tutor's Office (basically the guys who run the tutor system, very friendly) or the Education Officer of the Students' Union.

One of the above people should be able to help you further, give them a shout before you head in just to check they'll be around to meet with you, you don't want to waste a trip in!

    Best of luck with it.

I just got offered my preferred choice of Engineering in the 3rd round of the CAO in trinity. That means there are still free places, they just haven't filtered through the CAO system yet. You shouldn't have much trouble switching.

I can answer your queries for you. Go and see your tutor during Freshers Week. The sooner you get the ball rolling with regard to applying for an internal transfer, the better. What you need to do is go to the Admissions office, and ask for an internal transfer. They will print out a form for you, which you need to fill out and which you need to get signed by your tutor. Speak to Admissions first, before your tutor, as tutors can be useless about this. You have until november to apply, but the later you leave it the harder it gets to catch up.

Best of luck! You're definitely better off going for what you want to do.

It's an internal transfer. Nothing whatsoever to do with the CAO.

Even if you're transferring, you have to attend the registration of your original course, science in this case.

    Also, from here:
    5. How do I change course/ tranfer to a different course?

The first thing to remember is that to transfer to the Junior Freshmen year of any course, you must have the points for the course you want to transfer into. You will need to complete a Transfer Application Form, which you can get from your Tutor or download from this homepage. Your Tutor will also sign the form and forward it to the Admissions Office on your behalf.
If you are an incoming JUNIOR FRESHMAN
You may apply before the end of the second week of Michaelmas Term. Remember that all applications are held until the deadline and that the decision to allocate you a place is based on your Leaving Certificate points, the availability of places on the course and potential time-table constraints. You will be informed directly and in writing by the Admissions Office and, if offered a place, you need to confirm your acceptance by e-mail
If you have missed the first deadline, you can apply before the end of the first week of Hilary term. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, provided that places are available and that you have the required number of points. In addition, the approval of the department is required. Be aware that the later you transfer, the more difficult it is going to be to adjust to the new course and catch up.
