i like the look and design of those blades, i'm not gone on a folder. to many nooks and cranny's for rotten meat and blood to gather in.
also the chance if it folding in on your finger if it was not cleaned and locked open properly is a real problem that could be very dangerous.
it happened to me with a letterman once.
lots and lots of blood ouch.:o

a similar design but not a folder would be ideal i think.
and there is no real need for a gut hook as a sharp blade used properly is all you need.
i have a deer hunter knife with gut hook and i tried using the gut hook but always found my self going back to the blade .

    the kiss principle applies here:D

also i dont think you need to spend as much as €200 on a blade unless you want something fancy

i was just looking on you tube,
there are loads of reviews on hunting knives, this was the first one to pop up

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRvIa3_sGuw

some people think buck is the best . if you want to spend €150-€200 then here is a good place to start.:D

i found this one a little further down the list and i like the look of this one

one of the best hunting knifes of all this is the buck110 there about 40 pounds from the sports man .

knifes are a tool ,they have to stand the test of time . i wore the blade out on my buck . they replaced it for 10 dollars .

I find these Mora Frost knifes do the job for me. cheap at under €20 and hold an edge.

Or have a look at the Opiel range of folding knifes, can be bought for about €12 at the local gun and fishing shops.

Buck & Coldsteel make fine Keenly priced knives

I have a Spanish bowie style knife if memory serves me was ~€60. I have skinned, butchered and gutted with it on occasion, however For gutting I now have a skinner with a gut hook & a larger knife for bleeding

I have a sealgaire by Davy Moore and I can tell you you won't need another knife ever as long as you are willing to stretch your budget a bit. Mine is the damascus one on his website.

To be honest, if you are going to spend 200 euro you might as well save a bit more and go the whole hog.

If your not going for a custom, I wouldn't pay too much. A buck 110 or a mora clipper would be a good buy in terms of value, quality and usability.

Ive personally had great experience with joker knoves, good quality, hard wearing and easily sharpened, price really depends on size but a good knive imo regardless the money spent on them

Other than that ive really only used muela a spanish knife company, but even tho they are generally cheap they are a good knife

It all depends on what you want it for, rabbits/fox tails or deer. You dont have to go custom or spend big to have a good quality knife. look for something that has good reviews and will suit your purpose for it, also a high carbon content steel will get a sharper edge but may not stay as sharp as long as a lower carbon content steel

Have used one of these for the last five seasons and its still goin strong. Mine gets plenty of hardship and it keeps a good edge. Puma are a good crowd to deal with too, i wore out the first sheath and had to order a new one from them and their responses were quick and helpfull..

Not on deer, yet. I've only been able to get out once since the season started.
Hopefully I might get out during the week and get something.

I like Mora's, decent carbon steel and easy to replace if left on a hillside!

    DSCF1524.jpg

Svord Peasant, decent carbon steel and a foolproof folder that's easy to clean.
    DSC00451.jpg

Opinel stainless steel garden knife and some cheap Rough Rider folding knives, handy for dealing with bunnies.

    DSCF0559.jpg

Laguiole French folding knife with Ox horn handle scales, various sizes to suit.

If you wish to spend more, go have a look on Heinnie Haynes site to get an idea of what you like in a knife. http://www.heinnie.com/

I have some quite spendy knives, but the Mora's will do pretty much everything a custom knife will without causing heart failure if it gets lost or breaks. I just need to make a decent leather sheath for mine, the plastic ones will serve the purpose but look terrible.

You would not go wrong with a knife from Davy Moore either, I don't have one of his myself but I see from his site and posts on British Blades that he knows his stuff and builds a quality tool.

I know what I like to do in these situations....buy both! ;)

I have several hunting knives given to me through the years.
Several of them were made for me by well respected knife makers.
These are fully functional works of art and a joy to hold and behold.

    I dont use them.

I now use the Buck Gen5 skinner.
A light weight knife but still capable of doing more than I ever want from a knife. The new models use CPM 154 steel and can have a nice rose wood grip.

    A nice knife.

They can be bought for a hell of a lot less than $150

Cold Steel Bushman or Mini Bushman.
About 40 quid .All steel construction Exellent steel, big bellied knives for skinning and gutting.Built like the proveribal out house, and hold a great edge.
Only thing that needs improvement,is just para cord wrap the handle for a better grip when wet,but that personal choice.:)
