Ok here is my question for the people who know best. At present my parents are paying a subscription to sky each month but only ever watch the 4 irish channels, the reason they got sky was because the old anologue signal for rte from mount leinster was very poor in the area which is kilkenny. I tried rte from a uhf aerial on the test signal and it comes in perfect using an mpeg4 decoder. Now they would like to cancel sky and tune into dtt but could someone give me there opinion on when this could be done without future interuption to signal etc, also what about tv3 will this be available if not could i pick up an anologue signal. Thanks in advance.

The full national public launch of Irish DTT (Saorview) will take place sometime next year, between April and Dec 2011. This is the fully operational phase and should be interruption free.

By the end of Oct this year a soft or technical launch will take place from approx 28 of 51 DTT transmitters, this will be the public testing phase probably including a DTT public awareness information campaign. We have no indication yet if it will be interruption free.

From Aug 2008 to the end of Oct date is the pre-launch engineering test phase which is subject to interruptions from time-to-time.

There is no information regarding TV3 on DTT, 2012 is the closest we've got to official information. In the Kilkenny area TV3 may only be available in analogue from Mt Leinster, someone from the area may be able to post more specific information.

If they were to cancel Sky they could replace the Sky receiver with a freesat receiver and still get a lot of the TV3 programmes from UTV/ITV or use the Sky receiver for the free UK channels together with a DTT receiver.
