Eircom broadband question

    Hi,

We have had Eircom BB since just before Xmas 09 and ever since we were ''upgraded'' to NGB(no noticeable change) our bills have been fluctuating over the standard e59 that we had anticipated when we signed up due to exceeding our download limit. Our most recent bill was over e70,we dont use the phone at all and dont even have a handset connected, just the BB modem.

UPC recently upgraded the lines on our house and we can now get fibre power BB with them,3x the speed(currently 3mb with eircom and 15mb we could get from upc) that we are paying now for 32 e with no usage limits!

Just wondering how much eircom would charge if we cancelled our contract with 3 months left to run, sick to death of being fleeced by eircom and basically want rid of them!

For most contracts for similar services you could be charged the monthly fee for the remaining time, are you sure it the 3 months as you may have been signed up for an additional year when changing to the NGB.

Imho it was a bad idea to change over as you seem to have been hovering around the download limit before hand, the next one up is somewhere under €10 not sure the price for whatever bundle you have but you'll be near €70 either way.

Phone Eircom billing and tell them that you are leaving them because the d/l limit is ridiculous . See what happens from there , some other guy on here did that and they increased his limit to 100 gig .

    Hi,thanks for all the responses

We just got a letter in the post a few months back saying that we were being upgraded to NGB,we didnt sign a new contract or even ask to be upgraded they did it themselves.

Going to ring them in the morning and ask what we'll be charged if we cancel early,70 quid a month for 3mb(and it's not even 3mb!) BB is just ridiculous!!

I was under the opinion that it was a choice to stay with the old way or change to NGB.

Just FYI, the UPC has a fair usage policy with a download limit of 250GB AFAIK ;)

I even did not get anything saying "do you want to switch to NGB ?"

It is possibile to go back to old Broadband ?

Usually when you upgrade something you are paying less or having a better service. BTW in my case the CAP stricter rules [dl + up] instead of just dl I can only see a worse service than before

Was in touch with eircom and apparently we are no longer under contract with them for the BB so we wont have to pay any penalty charges for cancelling,so will be cancelling it once we have UPC up and running!!

Ordered UPC 15MB today, they're coming on Saturday morning to install,3x faster and no crappy 30gb cap and for half what we were paying eircom, happy days!
