    Ok here is the question,

I have been driving my parents car for the past 3 years but its time i got my own!

Needs to be cheap cheap cheap.

That includes cheap tax and insurance . .

Been looking at a 1.2 Punto but tax is too dear.

Corsa 1.0 is working out cheap but a bit too feminine!

    Any other suggestions??

At the moment the cheapest insurance quote ive got is 1077 for the punto with quinn, third party fire and theft.

Dont like to be smart or anything but if the tax on a 1.2 is to high maybe you should think about a Honda 50 or something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost all 1.0 cars are small and feminine!!!!!!!!!!

Less than €300 a year for tax is nowhere near dear, buy a 3 litre and see what it's like!

Tax will be your smallest ownership cost. The difference betweena 1 litre and a 1.2 or 1.4 is miniscule over a year. Check out a 1.25 zetec fiesta. really decent cars

Yup...1.3 FIAT unit is a decent one. Think VAG are bringing out a 1.2 tdi around now also. There was a 1 lite one back in the Charade back in the day too. Think there's a sub 1 litre in smart cars too

I would agree with this. You really need to reconsider car ownership if tax on a small engine is outside your budget. I mean there will be much greater costs from time to time. What if you need a head gasket unexpectedly, that will be a few hundred then you have general maintenance such as tyres, servicing etc.

I know its been said but Ill say it again; if you cant afford the difference in tax between a 1.0 and a 1.2 then you really cannot afford to drive Im afraid.

Most 1.0l cars will be small and the lower end of the car market. Find a way to budget for at least a 1.2. As suggested, the 1.25 Fiesta would be a great option.

If you can find a 1.3multijet diesel Fiat punto within your budget, they are a really good car.

The little bit extra you will pay for tax will be offset by considerable savings on diesel as opposed to petrol.

They came out in late 2003 I think.I had one which was a demo model.

Full tank at the time was €38 and it did massive mileage for that!!!!!!!!!

    Happy hunting!

P.S-That 1.0 Diesel Charade was a real gem of a car.3 cylinder 1.0 Diesel, cutting edge for its time.

i dont understand all the question marks? why not a yaris , they are very very reliable. the op wants a 1.0 litre car and the yaris fits the bill. whatever he, she wants to add in the line of accesories is up to themselves.

From my experience of driving them the Yaris is a dreadful car to drive. Not because its girly or anything like that, just because it is a horrible drive. So many nicer cars in a similar size. A late 90s Micra for example is a lot nicer to drive.

^ But at the end of the day it's still a Micra :P
