So I have a 8gb iPhone 3GS that I got from 3. Unwanted upgrade, It is new, in its box, un-activated. I would like to sell it.
What would any potential purchaser need to do to unlock it? Is it possible? Will the phone be locked to three? Do i need to request an unlock code from 3 or can the purchaser?

    Thanks

1: Yes, the phone will be locked to the three Ireland network.

2: Three will unlock the iPhone for a 25euro fee.

3: The phone can be unlocked when jailbroken if it is running the 4.0.1 firmware.

Can the purchaser request the unlock code?

NAC's are not issued for the iPhone, there is a separated dedicated system for dealing with unlocks.

An iPhone unlock is done through itunes, on behalf of the network rather than with a code. If you would like three to unlock it for you, it will cost 25e for this privilege.

Well why not ring them and ask them, this is an Internet forum, all youll get is other peoples opinions!

The other networks will only unlock to the original owner so I would assume 3 will operate in the same manner.

Just ring them yourself and ask them to unlock it, you can still sell it afterwards and even get more for it because it will be factory unlocked as such. But bear in mind they are 499e brand new and factory unlocked from apple direct so it would have to be fully unlocked to make anywhere near the going rate of 250-300e IMO.

They are unlocking phones still inside of contract for 25e

I thought Three are making people either wait till the end of their contract, or to pay for each remaining month before they can unlock it for a 25e fee?

They will unlock it no problem, your still contract bound for the remainder of your contract but the unlocked phone gives you some flexibility while roaming etc

There's another Thread about the same, looks like they change recently and will only unlock after the contract is over or near the end.

If you wish to unlock your iPhone from 3, they will charge you your line rental x how ever many months are left on your contract, for iPhone 4 users for example.....

    16 months x 60 = 740 + 25 unlocking fee!

    That's 765 in total!

Kceire read the 3 unlock thread. Posters have bein asked to pay 1000 off the contract to get it unlocked or else pay the contract in full
Tbh I don't know how ya missed it. You posted in the thread after it was said about payin off the contract

i thought it was just a case by case basis tbh.
my sister in law got hers unlocked from three on Friday as she was flying to spain that night.

she only had to pay 25e too.

edit - turns out she requested it before the cut off point and the first time she connected it to iTunes was friday.

also, would it make a difference that the OP is trying to unlock a 3Gs and not a 4?

i still cant understand them tbh, im not 3 or anything, im Meteor but even they do unlock the phone, you are still tied with the for the contract, it just makes it so much easier for their customers if unlocked imo.

suppose it keeps our Factory Unlocked versions prices up :):)

And with your phone unlocked, you cancel your DD and disappear into the sunset with your unlocked phone. Brilliant business model right there.......;)

considering you have to provide 2 utility bills and a bank statement before you get the phone, i dont think you would dissappear that easily!

in my last job, we used to get a delivery of phones and we'd be onto O2/Vodafone that day looking for unlock codes, and they were always provided!

So i need to sell the phone to someone already on 3.

    Understood

    Thanks

Not exactly, aslong as it is running v4.0.1 it can be unlocked with ultrasnow or 4.0.2 with a rewind, but if it's updated to 4.1 it won't be eligible for an unlock as it's a different baseband and the dev-team have yet to release an unlock for it.

3 asked me for one utility bill. Maybe that's why they want the contract paid up.
