Heya i was interested in knowing if anyone had any success in if the odd sunbed help clear up acne on your back. My skin is always better during the summer because of the sun but as soon as winter comes it gets horrible and spotty again. I've no interest in getting a tan with a sunbed.
I am scared of the health affects but surely once a month or so cant cause damage its very annoying to me it happens year in and out.
I've never used one before and have no experience in the subject.
Any help or advice would be appreciated..

I've used them in the past to clear up some skin problems.

Natural sunlight is best, of course, but lack of sunlight in Northern Europe means I've hopped on the beds from time to time.

    They've worked well for me.

Ask the person behind the desk which strength and duration should you be using as a beginner and a couple of times a week max, shouldn't do any harm.

    Just don't over do it.

Acne 100 times over. I thought a couple times a week would be overdoing it pookah?

Sunlight is in the same category as sunbeds. Abuse will lead to problems. Moderate use is fine.

Depends what strength and duration and what skin type you have.

You really should be asking a professional, I guess.

Skin damage is a lot worse with sunbeds than with the sun. Best off to avoid sunbeds all together. I have never used them. The natural light from the sun is better, you get your bit of Vitamine D for the winter and there you go! There are other alternatives to easing acne. Steam! Works a treat, clears skin very well. There are other natural ways too if you look out for them.

    Sunbeds?

How the fcuk can a person spend hour upon hour in one of these things laying there like a giant cooked cockroach? Its a mystery to me. Same with regular sunbathing, i don't get it??? Go to the beach - lay down for hours - go home. Jesus talk about BOOORRRRIIINNGG.

All for that perfect tan. It really is the height of vanity.

Can you not go to your doctor & go on the pill or get steroid cream for it?

Stay away from sunbeds, it's not worth it.

No such thing as a safe tan! Nice to get a bit of fresh air and vitamin D and get a small bit of colour. Spending hours out in the sun is boring and old news now. Safer to be out for an hour a bit and get a bit of sun and be done with it for the day enjoying the sun while walking or playing on the beach is grand but lying down or sitting out under the sun doing nothing is a quick way of being fried. Best to have a light bit of colour from the sun than to look like a lobster! Not a nice look and doesn't feel nice either. Safer to just get a little bit of a tan if you want one rather than going overboard. Think people look better without a tan to be honest. Doesn't look natural. Wouldn't fancy having wrinkles too young. You can still get sun spots without actually lying out in the sun! If you are fair skinned best to avoid the strong sun and just be out in it when the sun isn't too strong where you are less likely to burn. I think sunbeds should be banned, a waste of money to be honest. Its easier to put up with acne than put up with sunburn.

You're right, too much it seems.

The British Photodermatology Group recommend a limit of 20 exposures a year.

I would only have used them occasionally myself, maybe 3 times in the space of a week, 2 or 3 times a year, but like I said earlier you should be asking a skincare specialist.

I suggest going to see a Dermatologist. I've just finished a course of treatment at a hospital. Where they have these special industrial looking stand up sun beds. They're quite powerful, you only stand in them for a few seconds at a time, which equates to a few hours of sun exposure. However, you don't tan they just treat the skin condition. They're mainly used for patients with eczema and Psoriasis, but possibly Acne.

You can buy a narrowband UVB lamp that people use for psoriasis. (Cancer issues are way overblown and only apply to people who burn the skin or overdo it)

Or you could try a vitamin D3 supplement to see if that's the component of the sunlight that is helping the acne:

    Odd question for AH..

I don't think anyone would spend an hour in them.
