I got a brochure from Expert pushed throw my letterbox yesterday, I had a look at it today and was very disappointed to read the misinformation about DTT and satellite or cable users!
This is word for word the article in this brochure!
Warning! Digital Television (DTT) is coming to Ireland!

TV is currently undergoing a transition from analogue to digital broadcasting with the advantages of the availility of more TV channels, radio channels and high definition pictures. At the end of 2012 the currently analogue signal will be switched off. Households with satellite or cable television will have to upgrade to DTT to access Irish stations.
RTé ONE, RTé TWO, TV3, 3E and TG4*
When shopping for a new TV made sure to check that the Irish Digital TV ready TV’s which possess an MPEG-4 tuner will receive free to air digital TV. Check out the range of Irish Digital TV ready TV’s at your local Expert store and look out for the TV with the Irish Digital TV Ready stamp in this brochure!

    * TV channel logos used

Disappointing alright. You could make a complaint to the advertising standards authority for Ireland .

It's a typo in the advert I spotted it a few months back - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055926582.

It should read "Households without satellite or cable" and not "Households with satellite or cable"

    This is totally wrong.

no-one should be allowed to claim

"Irish Digital TV Ready" without Saorview certification accredited by Teracom.

There are TVs with MPEG4 Tuner that don't meet the spec. That may not work at all, even though they work now and others that may suffer no sound :(

Hi guys, sorry was away from the computer yesterday after posting this thread, far play to jobyrne30 for spotting this back in May, and jobyrne30’s attachment is the same as what I have in my brochure “the TV doctor”.

Maybe a Moderator could join this thread to the other thread!

I don't think this is a “typo”, because "3e" is listed, I think this is aimed at households with satellite or cable television users! To me, it reads that the Irish stations are going to be available on DTT only and satellite and cable are losing the Irish stations. Look at it again, I have put in bold the text which I think will mislead people to think that the listed TV stations are going to be switched off.

It ready should read as "Households with satellite and cable television will have to upgrade to DTT to access the extra Irish stations."

I also have an issue the crest they are using! As they have listed 8 TV's in this brochure that have "MPEG-4 Digital Tuner Irish Digital TV Ready" on the spec and only 6 of them also carry their crest. Another TV has "Integrated MPEG-4 Digital Tuner" in the spec, the Irish DTT is confusing enough without retailers making the situation worse.

If this is indeed a typo (i'm suspicious that it is) why would they use up space mentioning satellite or cable? Why would you mention a segment of the market that does not need to buy from you?

After reading more threads about this, I think this is the original Expert article posted in March by Medoc.

Note 3e is not listed, I think the above article is acceptable as it also has the line "What this means to you..."

The newer article in the brochure I have titled "Autumn Offers" (I believe) is intended to read like that and if they get pulled up on it - they can then say it was a misprint or "typo". If it was a "typo" if should have been fixed by now, as it was first run in May as jobyrne30 had posted it then. Isn't it 80% of households in Ireland with satellite or cable? Expert are trying to scaremonger and capitalise on the very little knowledge out there at the moment on Irish DTT.

Maybe the "Typo" I spotted in May generated so much business they "forgot" to correct it.

I didn't realise how long ago I posted that thread (time flies), the flyer should have been fixed by now. Definitely getting into dishonest territory now.
