Quick question: would people advise drilling through plastic plates, or should I glue them?

Double sided foam tape holds them securely, no need for drilling.

I always drill a hole then screw them on

Yeah, my front plate is metal but screwed on.

But got a replacement rear plate that's plastic and I'm concerned that drilling through it would crack it. I suppose a small enough drill bit may not but I'd rather not take the risk alright.

Might go up to Halfords and see what they have.

As long as you use a reasonably sharp drill bit, moderate pressure and a large washer under the screw to fix it, you'll be grand

Yeah, just use the old plate as a template for the holes on the new one and drill away. Did so recently and had no problems, they won't crack. Id say drill from back to front to get a clean hole.

I've done it plenty of times with no issues, as said line up the old plate so that you can use it as a template.

Drill it on the plank of wood and you will be grand. TBH I don't even use wood just the ground and I never cracked one and I've done hundreds. I always use screws as well. If using the old plate as a template make sure when you have them on top of each other straight the edges and make sure the both faces are facing up.

    Done.

Went over to the father's house (I'd no drill) and he did them.

We used the old plates as a template for the new ones. They came out very well..and looks better than the metal one on the front.

Now to go up to the NCT centre on Monday for my cert.

    Thanks all!

Make sure your bulbs are amber enough, good luck with the test!

    Did my test thankfully.

But failed it on a few minor things so just need to go up for an inspection to get my cert.

My rear plate needed to be replaced as some of the blue from the flag flaked off from my local car wash.!
