Have you just bought a PS3? Which firmware came with it?

I'm just trying to decide if I can wait for the 320gb move bundle and still have homebrew (have my cake and eat it). I guess everything today is 3.41 and since the 320gb (and 160gb) have not yet been released nobody can say about those for a while, but once they are then this could be useful.

Of course if someone knows a typical firmware relese to shelf time then that would also be great.

Which firmware came with your new PS3? 16 votes

I would forget about homebrew on the PS3 if you ever want to play online with the machine. Sony will patch any security breach within a few days with mandatory update.

Wow, he really is a Grumpypants!

I wouldn't say any new PS3 stock would have 3.42 on them just yet! they'd all be 3.41 for a while until all places sell their stock and get new ones in. The update was only last week i think, so it'd take a while to get into the public on new models i would think. I could be wrong though.

The new ps3 that will be bundled with Move will probably be 3.42, Sony would have made a big effort to ensure that. The New HDD size will probably have it too.

Is the move bundle out now?

I would expect Sony to make an extra effort to get 3.42 on outgoing shipments than they would for other firmwares. It will still take some time to reach shops of course. Right now I feel homebrew has more potential than Move (which is the plus for waiting for the bundle), at least with a 3.41 I can play everything released until the next on-disk update and keep the potential for homebrew. (I've always been more interested in single player games and I can get by on the back catalogue without needing the psn store for a while).

    Not yet, coming Wednesday apparently.

I dont see the point in the homebrew etc. Sony will hear about it and as everything is internet related they will lock you off the PSN until you update.

Plus if they do release Move they can have a firmware that YOU will HAVE to be on to use it.

    Forget the piracy ! Cheapskates

I do, but won't bother with it until the PS3 is at the end of it's life and Sony don't care any more even if i had another PS3 i'd still want to use PSN/trophies and not be limited. Trophies and PSN mean more to me than homebrew and anything it can offer, i would like better media support in the ofw but can do without.

I didn't realise not releasing it was an option :D, ps3 users you very bold so no Move for you . Developer will do a bit of extra work to make sure newer games need the newer firmwares. While the firmware was release only a short time ago most stock of the bundles would have been in scee distribution point then and not in a shop waiting for the release date.

As you pointed out where i was coming from was anything new that is released will need firmware upgrade.

just registered to confirm that my new PS3 320GB Move bundle came with 3.40 to vendor, but before i go for it i wait for someone else to try jailbreak it and run backups with included Demo disc inside, or i will cancel that order

Someone else will undoubtedly try, but i doubt you'll read about success in that particular area of use here.

I'm just bumping this so it's seen by anyone buying the 320gb from today. I'll probably get one myself over the weekend anyway because it looks safe re: firmware.
