Questions on faults in the test.

Hey guys, I have my test on the 30th of this month and I've had my 1st two lessons this month.

1st one I got 9 faults that he spotted. I knew I was doing stuff wrong and learned from it.

2nd one I got 4 faults that he spotted. He did say it should have been two only I didn't psychically look behind me TWICE(I only looked once) when reversing around the corner and 3 point turn. I kept using the centre mirror.

I got one for not going up to 4th gear when I could have and the other for keeping my hand on the gear stick too long. I have a habit of keeping my hand there while I go from 2nd to 3rd. About 5 seconds.

On the 2 last faults I listed, I'm sure the 4th gear one would only be a grade 1? Keeping my hand on the gear stick too long surely a grade 2? What about the mirrors on the reverse and 3 point turn? 2's?

Is there a list online to what constitutes each grade?

You use your mirrors on the reverse, but in addition to (not instead of) looking out the back window. You have a much wider view by looking out the window. Remember, you are actually travelling that direction so it's important to look which way you are travelling.

For the gear fault, it is hard to know. It depends on the situation. For example, in my test I took a bend in the road in 3rd that really should have been taken in 2nd. I only got a Grade 1 fault for this though.

Two for observation, yes. You need to look out the back window. The third could be a grade two for progress, otherwise a grade one if you were just in the wrong gear. 5 seconds holding the gear stick not even a grade 1. One can access the marking system on the rsa site, but it is very complicated. It is rare that I would only give a student 4 marks in a pretest

You got a grade 1 for taking a corner in the wrong gear. I would have thought that would have been more. Hmm ill have to look up the marking system.

Yeah he said the same to me. He was convinced I had lessons before I went to him. Its just I feel like i'm doing great and I just don't know if that will all change come test day?
