Just wondering if anyone that studies this has ever pulled off an Aikido technique in a real life situation. I'm constantly reading about how it only works in real life and i need some convincing.

Well there are very few Akido-ka here, and fewer again (I suspect) with any 'real life' experience of using Akido IRL.

A book I've read, and enjoyed is Angry White Pyjama's.

Although I suspect most people involved in Aikido do so for the 'Art' of the style rather than its real life effectiveness.

Once aw a friend of mine who was an aikido black belt nail a guy with rokkyo (standing arm lock) when the tool grabbed him and tried to throw a dig. if you're worried about real world application aikido probably isn't the thing to be doing though

I done door work with a Canadian lad who was an Aikido BB and had some great locks too, looked effortless.

Its one of the style's I'd like to have a deeper understanding off, that and Kendo.
