I'm a fresher this year and was wondering, in general, how do people go about getting involved in the Students Union?

Can you just turn up at the S.U office and volunteer or would there be a sign up thing on Clubs and Societies day?

Become a class rep, email the sabbatical officers regarding volunteering in working groups etc.

Yup, that's pretty much it. Just turn up at the office and say you're available to lend a hand - everyone will love you. :D
At least that's the way it is in DIT.

I would be more interested in volunteering in assisting with Events and Working Groups at the moment till I find my feet in the place. I'm not up for seeking election as a Class Rep as I don't really know the people in my class yet.

I'm heavily involved in volunteering outside College, such as with a political party and other community projects but think I should contribute in College as well when the opportunity is there. I've tons of down-time on my course, although I imagine some of that will soon be eaten up by projects and stuff.
