If she has any antibiotic in her system, none of her milk should go into the tank until the withdrawal period is up.

You could send a sample from the infected quarter (before tubing it) to the vet to identify the bug causing the infection. It will either be environmental (e.g. E. coli), or contagious (e.g. Staph. aureus) mastitis. At least that way you'll have some idea of what you're dealing with. There isn't much can be done about environmental bugs beyond keeping the cows clean, but they pick up those infections out in the field anyway. Contagious bugs are controlled in the parlour, by milking gloves, pre- and post- dipping and so on. If you are sending in a sample, don't use preservative and keep it in the fridge until it goes to the vet's.

i can not understand how people treat a cow and only keep the milk from the 1 quarter , i was fined 10000 euro for antibiotics in 2008 -not my fault;)-

i was very lucky , i had changed insurance to hibernian , they covered my milk and the lorry load also , fbd wouldn't have covered my milk , they co-op charged me 48 cent per litre  milk price was high at the time . My hungover brother put dry cow tubes in the wrong cow:mad: and i didnt know so i milked her :cool:i was 7 months pregnant at the time and insurance paid up fairly quickly , never ever again:o

Heard of guys doing that but dont understand how milk isnt failing ihhibitor tests. Arent antibiotics systemic? If not then why all the fuss about meat withdrawl post mastitis treatment? Obviously some are retained in the quarter better than others but it is a big risk to lose a tanker of milk over a few euro. The advice was good. Check the insurance first
