bush by a mile, haughey may have lined his pockets but ask the people of doneycarney and the old age pensioners what he was like and they would kiss the ground he walked on, plus he didnt launch any illegal wars on other countries

    who was the better poet?

I suppose its fair to say that we know more about Haughey's faults and dodgy dealings. I dont think the dirt on Bush is fully know or certainly not to the degree that Haughey's is.

Bush is the far worse by the sheer scale of the lives that he affected through the idiocy of his ideals

Both good men in their own regards.

Isn't it great how there is no option for people who liked both Bush and Haughey?

In terms of having a direct effect on this country, the country I'm from, and noticeably starting the downward spiral of political ethics here, no question.

    The corrupt Haughey.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone as charismatic as Charles Haughey. That man could talk his way out of anything.

    Are you another barstool republican?

Haughey was an excellent politician. How anyone could be that corrupt and manage to stay in power is beyond me.

One day history will show that George W Bush was one of the greatest leaders of our time.

Haughey was an excellent politician. How anyone could be that corrupt and manage to stay in power is beyond me.

Because over 40% of the Irish population supported him.

We are quite simply a feckless, filthy and drunkard race, unable to govern ourselves.

Which is better? A pineapple or a pair of socks?

You cant compare the two. They had different jobs, at different times, and different affects on different people.

Who was worse for Ireland? Haughey.
Who was worse for the world? George W. Bush.

So you cant compare the two.

We cant compare anything really. Your interpretation of reality is subjective and intrinsically different from anyone else's.

He asked who was worse, he wasnt specific with the context but I think in terms of politics and how their politics affect those around them, as they were politicians.

    Dubya was worse.
Haughey was a corrupt liar, but did not make as much of an impact on the world as Dubya did.

We can be insular and blame Haughey for the current recession, but Dubya's war mongering had far more of an effect than Haughey's corruption.

Want to blame someone for your huge mortgage?
    Blame yourself.

Do you have a source for that, or is it just word on the street?

I'm no fan of Haughey, but accusing someone of arms smuggling without any evidence is wrong.

Eh well during the Arms Trial some individuals testified that Haughey was involved in an attempt to smuggle arms in to Northern Ireland.

Did they have actual evidence or should we just believe their statement?
