I was just looking through his results for the season there and it has to be said he has had a very consistent year, especially from May onwards. €439k in earnings and sitting in 49th on the Road to Dubai. He sits at 164 in the world rankings.

I don't know much about the guy personally but he always came across grounded and respectful in the few interviews I've seen him give. I also got to see him for a few holes at the JP Pro Am this year and he was very decent and giving of his time to anyone who wanted something signed.
It would be nice to see him push on and win another tournament and possibly break in to the worlds top 100. His putting stats are up there in the top 20 on tour. His driving distance and more importantly accuracy are unfortunately heading in the other direction.

I see that he has an official website, but it's pretty basic it has to be said.

He is only 3 off the lead at the KLM, a tournament he finished 4th at last year. He is currently available at 30/1 with Bet365 and I'll be having a few quid of that e/w this evening.

Got to admire the man, making a living in such a competitive game week in week out .
He has a job we all dream of !
    Fairplay to him.

Yeah, he and the other 'mid range' irish golfers such as lawrie and lowry, doing well these days. All 3 of the guys in top 60 so far.

I dont think he's a real star but he seems to be earning a very good living! Very consistent this year.

    Fair play.

A lot of attention on Lowry on this forum, not enough on Lawrie and McGrane, and to a lesser extent Thornton.

I have to agree, Mc Grane is a great grinder and I hope he gets a big breakthrough pretty soon.
During a recent tournament I heard the Sky commentators saying something along the lines that he was doing very well - given his abilities!
    Condescending to say the least.

Thornton hasn't done anything to merit attention. Lawrie on the other hand has had a very solid season, 500k in earnings and counting.

Well i said a lesser extent. He's had a few decent results in the limited number of starts he's had.

Another solid week, t27 and 16k cheque as it stands.
Ditto lawrie. Lowry's off the boil a bit these days.

Ya. It was a shame about yesterdays round. Take that out and he would have been looking at a top 5 possibly.

McGrane cracking before our eyes, bad mistake he made on his second shot

All his hard work, steady as she goes. Now he's blown it all in one hole :(

Really blowing it now, great chance he had there to drop only 1

Double and could have been worse only for lucky free drop. Still just 1 behind McDowell.

Another bogey for McGrane, was a terrible 3 wood and impossible shot from against the wall.
Ain't over yet though on this course !

Great win for McDowell, what a year he is having !
Was'nt nice to McGrane crack in the last 3 holes after chipping in for a birdie to go one up. Nice pay cheque should soften the blow but he be kicking himself looking back on that missed opportunity.

Shame to see him creek near the end there. If he played those last three in level par he would have won it. He still got a cheque for 220K and is up to almost 30th in the R2D.

I'm afraid that's the difference between a good journeyman and world class.

Not sure about Journeyman status on mcgrane (as I open this can of tasty worms).

The finish in Valderrama was incredibly tough this year with the wind blowing, and yes 6-6-5 is no way to finish, but he gave himself a real chance when he probably had no right to. The bunkers shot on 15 was class.

McDowell though definitely deserved it -

I think there is a trend with Irish players recently winning big tournaments on very tough courses - obviously harrington excels in the tough stuff, as does mcdowell.

McGrane is a lovely fella I have to say. He has supported my clubs Pro Am for many years and won it a few times. He actually came back and played in it (and won!) the week after he won the China Open in 2008. He mentioned in his speech that he was pretty sure that it was the first time that double had been done :D

Glad to see him finish in a decent position, pity about the last few holes.

Was really rooting for him yesterday. Thought he played very steady in very tough conditions right up the 16th. Valderrama is just so punishing though. Makes for great TV. I think it was McDowell's experiance as a winner that carried him home ahead of McGrane and Maybin. He holed a good few lengthy par putts and didn't make the big mistakes on the last holes.

Still a great result for McGrane who seems to be having his most consistent season(along with Peter Lawrie). Would be great to see him win before end of the year.

Maybe journeyman is harsh, he's a very good golfer who earns a very good living without ever being a star, or troubling the ryder cup table.

Those that really know Damien would describe him as modest, honest, obliging and realistic.

He describes himself as an "average player on tour".

Someone who never forgot where he came from and worked his ass off to get to the European stage. Doing nicely for himself in my opinion.

Valderrama is a tough course even without wind. I've been there several times and watched it crucify the most talented players on tour.

Peter Lawrie is a fine player and a real gentleman.

The results speak for themselves...........both the above will be in Dubai for the RTB Final!

Quote from the Irish Times today:

"As for yesterday’s Irish runners-up, McGrane and Maybin have earned the right for they have taken the long road to success. For years McGrane juggled a club professional role at Wexford Golf Club and plied his trade on the Irish PGA circuit – and won the order of merit three times – before chasing the dream and committing full-time to the European Tour in 2003. His breakthrough win came at the 2008 China Open".
