    Thank you.
Sorry for not being more specific.

Budget: anything up to 1000 euro

    Use: Internet,e-mail,word-processing,academic work

Mobility: Not important(I will only use it at home). To be honest, I would have a preference for as large a screen as possible.

    Warranty:Medium Importance

    Operating system: Windows

    Thanks

What sort of academic work? if its nothing too taxing id lower you budget to ~€500

    Thanks teddy.

The academic work is just basically some mathematical stuff....not very taxing.I think your advice to lower the budget is sound. So,what would you recommend in and around the 500 euro price range?

The only reason that i was thinking of spending more than that is that I am concerned about quality...I don't want something that will decide to stop working after a couple of months.

    Thanks again.

Just a few more questions, when you say you want "a large a screen as possible" how big are you talking about?

Quality wise, you are going to get people recommending different manufacturers here, for example i have a HP desktop thats over 6 years old, was one of the cheapest i could find and haven't had a single problem with it but i know many people here say to stay away from HP

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ie&cs=iedhs1&kc=NRS15454&l=en&m_30=321942&oc=N0054509&rbc=N0054509&s=dhs
would do spec wise for what you said you would want to be doing with it (don't really know if the screen is big enough for you) but i dont know how you feel about dell's

There's also some good deals to be had on amazon but they seem to have stopped shipping any laptops to Ireland
