    Hi folks,

I've just registered, thanks for having me!

So to get down to it, I was recently offered a teaching position in Abu Dhabi - one of the International Schools of Choueifat - which I'm considering. I've had a thorough look through their website, read my contract inside and out and done some general research on Middle Eastern culture. But I'm wondering is there anyone out there who has any experience with these SABIS guys or knows someone who has. It would be great to get some feedback on living conditions, general feel of the place, societal factors etc before hopping on a plane to Abu Dhabi for a year!

    Much appreciated :)

You might get more feedback at tes.co.uk there'd be a lot more people there who've taught abroad. I was considering working abroad and got loads of ehlp there.

Hi, I worked with them for 5 years in the middle East. Many Irish have and do work for them (just search this forum and you will see). Many of the teachers I worked with were Irish. They have an interesting educational system, much different from Ireland so you should be prepared for that. Irish tend to be popular with them, probably because we work hard and enjoy ourselves. You wont hear many complaints from the Irish, most stay 2 or 3 years or longer (i only intended staying 1 year)

Have an open mind and you will enjoy and get a lot form the experience. You can even transfer to their other schools around the world.

BTW THey are not SABIS they are the International Schools of Choueifat UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman (they are members of the SABIS network, important distinction)
