    Hi,
Are you allowed to dry steer for this manouvere? i know its not good for the car but wondering if you get penalised for it in the test or not?
Also is there a link to the testers manual i.e. their marking system

I did and wasn't penalised for it. I failed the test, but it wasn't for the turnabout.

It's called a multi-point turn - you don't have to do it in three turns anymore.

You can dry steer during the turnabout if you wish.

The tester's guidelines are here: http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/ADI/DrivingFault_Marking_Guides.pdf

you may dry steer for the turn in the road, especially if road is narrow. although if width of road allows, counter steer slightly to prepare for the next part of the turn. no longer called 3 point turn, you may take a 4th turn if nessesary.

thanks, makes the whole thing alot easier so..just reading about use of the mirrors when reversing..would ye suggest lookin out the back first then use side mirror to see how close you are to the kerb (thats what i usually do)?

When do the reverse you should carry out a complete 360 degree observation starting over your right shoulder before you begin to move back. You can then use your mirror to locate the kerb and help maintain a nice distance from it but you can't simply look in this mirror alone. You should also use your centre mirror and be looking over your left shoulder regularly too.

If you don't look over your left shoulder you won't see any pedestrians who could appear or other road users approaching the corner from the road you are reversing into.
