Apologies if this doesn't make a lot of sense:o, I'll try my best to explain. I ripped some tracks off some music cd's a long time ago. I no longer have the cds but do have the tracks. Is there any piece of software I can use(other than itunes!) that will scan the folders I have the tracks in, connect to the web and auto rename the tracks to the actual song titles based on the album names of the folders...

Example of one of my Albums is...

    Oasis - Definately Maybe

    The song names are...
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 4 etc.

I want the actual titles of the tracks to be shown and not just 'track 1' etc.;)

Are the files tagged with the album info, or is the album info just from the folder name?

Tbh, I am not sure if the files are tagged, I believe they are though. If they are not am i fooked:(

It would be easier if they had the album and artist names tagged.
Windows media player can get the real song names from that.

If they don't have tags, you can easily to do batch rename of artist in Windows media player to change artist, album for all highlighted. Then use the online lookup after that

You should look up the album on amazon or some sh*te, and get the track list from that.

Also you can go to a lyrics site and type in a few lines from the song.

@ rockmonster cheers for that man, I do have a few 'Various Artists' compilations which I believe are tagged. Is there any software that can download and rename those files correctly?

In WMP do I just load up my artist album and then what exactly do I need to do to rename the files. Is there a button like 'retrieve correct filenames online' that I can press by any chance;)

@ Podman, getting the album names is not the problem mate, I just don't want to have to manually retype them. It's not feasible with a couple of hundred ripped cd's

I have a playlist that I change quite regularly, for DJing, and I find that Tagscanner is the best... it's got a really useful autonumber function that you can use to change the track numbers when you have the tracks listed in the proper order.

For what it's worth, the current version of WinAmp can do this, as it incorporates an auto-tag function from Gracenote that analyses the file.

As I haven't used the function much, I've not found how to make it autotag more than one track at the time, though it's supposed to be able to do multiple files at once.
