Hi all im just trying to get information on security courses. I have done a 16 week fetac level 4 course and have both security licences. Am just wondering how do i advance on from this and gain more relevant qualifications for the security industry. Mainly only looking for part time or night courses due to work. I am based in cork so course would have to be close enough. Thanks in advance

I really wouldn't bother. The two courses you have done are more than enough to get you into the industry. :(

Having more training / qualifications than the next guy will not guarantee you a better job. Most management jobs in the industry are filled by ex - AGS or army.

When promotions are not filled by ex services they normally are filled by staff than senior management have favoured and so have been groomed for years to fill the post. More often than not, good staff members would be left on the bottom rung of the ladder because the client likes them on a contract & management is afraid to lose the contract if they are replaced.

More often than not, all employers are looking for is a warm body to fill a uniform.

Good examples of this are two guys who, although under my direct control are employed by a third party service provider. Both these guys have degrees in Security Management but yet when an opening for an assistant manager opened up, their employer banned them from applying for it. Claiming they would be in breach of their contracts.

The only thing I would advise it get some experience before you train. Experience is regarded as a qualification in itself, try doing safe pass and first aid as they will make you a bit more useful than the next guy at an interview.
