Really dumb question im sure, but i havent been on a Dublin Bus in YEARS! And even then we're talking the 90 from Heuston to O Connell St and thats about it....shame!!:o

Anyway, im off to see a friend in a few weeks, and thought it wise not to drive, as theres probably no parking where she lives, plus the fact i would more than likely get lost!(again, Liffey Valley/Blanchardstown/Airport, thats the sum total of my Dublin driving!)

Anyway, i need to get from Heuston to Bushy Park House, Terenure, sooooooooo, im thinking i need the 90 to the top of O Connell St, then a walk to Eden Quay, to get the 15 to Terenure?
Have i planned that correctly?? :o

so, now what im wondering is how i know which stop i need to get off at in Terenure? I know its the 1125, but do they announce/display the stops on the bus? Or do i just have to look out for it and hope for the best.
I dont know the area at all, never set foot in Terenure in my life!

Completely culchie morto questions i know, but better than getting lost!!
    :D

    Thanks

google maps and find the area and find a lankmark near the stop is best bet. there'll always be a junction or distinctive building etc nearby.

    Or simply ask the driver

you'd be better off getting the 92 from heuston to nassau street and then switching to one of the 15 or 15b.
from google maps once you get through terenure crossroads you'll see an eddie rockets on your left hand side, then you'll go past the library then a long wall with houses the other side, then you'll come passed bushy park itself when you're going passed bushy park press the bell and the next stop is the one you want.

Much more direct taking the 92. ;) Will make a note of those landmarks, thanks.

Right there, did you see this. Perfect directions - but in 2010, it is embarrassing that this is how you describe directions to a bus stop!!!

Perhaps using the bus stop numbers on a screen on board would make more sense than long scrolling names. Or even something like "Terenure 12".

OT: just ask the driver to let you know when you're on that street.

Yes, it seems unreal to think that there is no display or announcement before each stop?! How easy would it be to say or display "Next stop 1125 Terenure/Bushy Park?!
The stops are all numbered on the Dublin Bus website, and i know the stops themselves have the number too, but thats impossible to see when you're on a crowded bus, in the rain or dark, and are not familiar with the area.
I cant imagine how tourists manage to get around this country, i really cant.

Maybe i should submit a strongly worded letter....:p

Very confusing, isn't it? What I do is get all the bus stops up on google maps and count up the bus stops from a stop that I know so it gives you a rough idea of where your stop is.
