Classic Car Run Sept 19th Phoenix Park

Some of you guys will remember that there has been a classic run in September for the last two years. Many of you came to The Coachmans the first year, through Malahide and up to the Transport Museum in Howth.

Last year we went through the tunnel and down to The Beehive for breakfast.

Well we want to keep it going so we intend to meet on the main straight in The Phoenix Park at 10.30 am Sunday 19th September for departure at 11.00. We will take a meandering route, i.e off the main roads (exact route to be decided) and end up in The WhiteSands Hotel in Portmarnock ( that's Tamangos to you and I :'D ) for a spot of lunch, soup, sambo or whatever.

The date is fixed and the trip will happen no matter what the weather throws at us !

So spread the word and add your name and car type (anything interesting classic or not) here if you are interested. This is a very informal run and is not part of any official club so all are welcome.

If you are on Facebook search for NorthDublin ClassicCarRun and add as a friend !

Just a quick update, there are quite a number of cars expected, over 20 but again all are welcome.

The main straight in the Park where we will meet is called Chesterfield avenue, for those who dont know, and it may help you getting there.

also if the weather is nice we may extend the drive and continue to Skerries and stop at Jack's Ocean Bar & Grill but we can decide this on the day !

Again spread then world all are welcome, its casual so dont be shy !!! ;)

Is there parking at Jacks Ocean bar and Grill?

    Hi Keven

looking forward putting a face to a name

Kev, there is plenty of parking all along that street, I believe mass will be just over by the time we get there !

Ok well the way I see it now is we should decide on the morning which way to go. If the weather is poor we will probably take Route A to Portmarnock.

If it looks good and the majority of folk are up for it then a longer run out to Skerries to Jack's Bar & Grill would be far more enjoyable, and we will take Route B.

Either way we will avoid the City Center and as many junctions, which could separate us, as possible

    Both Routes

Leave the Phoenix Park via the X Gate and take the first exit at the rounabaout (N6), continue through the next junction and enter the M5 at Blanchardstown, Junction 6, head North to exit at Ballymun, Junction 4, exiting left (this is past the NCT centre). Continue on the R108 to "T" junction & turn right onto R122 and continue 8km's to "T" junction with R125 "Rathbeale Road".
Continue into Swords through 1 sets of traffic lights and turn left at 2nd set, veer right over small bridge and turn right at traffic lights at Swords Fire station.

At this point we will either take Route A. so take the second exit onto Seatown road and follow the estuary road into Malahide, hugging the coast road and arrive at The WhiteSands hotel,

    OR

    Route B.
Take the first exit and head North on the old N1, straight through the roandabouts to Blakes Cross where we take a right turn and follow the road through Lusk and on to Skerries. Jack's Bar & Grill is literally straight all the way and adjacent to the monument on Strand Street !

This is a link showing the Route to Swords ( at least I hope it is ! )

I'd love to be doing this but family commitments will no doubt get in the way. I live in Lusk too so it's on the way (assuming route B is the winner).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

    Good stuff !

One of the lads pointed out that Skerries could be a bit of a pain for parking on a Sunday. Strand street is a pay area whilst the sea front (parallel) is free. We will probably only e parked for an hour, hour and a half, so its no big deal.

I suggest we take a vote on it when we gather in the morning !

Enjoy the day tomorrow and I look forward to seeing the pics.

A little video and slide show from today

Fairly good yank representation! Sorry I couldn't make it!

By the way, for future reference a better meeting up point in the park is the car park in front of the Pope's cross, just behind the American Ambassadors residence.

Kevin Herron arrive up in it today and I only know what he told me about it. So I would leave it him to answer you on that one. However I do remember seeing it often parked at Killiney Court Hotel, years back.

    Over to you Kevin

Thanks Jack, thanks for coming, and for that video clip & the photos. It was a good turn out considering the weather !

Typically it was glorious as I set off home, about 20 minutes after you left.

The Papal cross car park was mentioned as a more suitable starting point...........maybe next time.

Loved seeing "OKI" up close........ truly a wonderful car...........must get the details of that Xenon kit from you Jack !

I enjoyed it myself and to be honest, I really liked your Merc, the lines are something else and when the windows lowered just Class. She sounded very well pulling away from the lights a clean crisp sound just as a Merc should.
I will look it up where I got them (Xenon Kit) and will PM you details etc. i i DONT REMIND ME :oThere is a motor factors who sell them in Dublin as a kit. The 6000k white I think suit our type of car NOT the blue tint.
Catch you again some time cheers, Jack

I like the Morris Minor Traveller - I'm guessing it's non standard under the bonnet but what's going on with the angle of the steering wheel in it?

A big thanks to all involved in organising this run, it was very enjoyable.

IIK1 was sold new by Huet Motors, Lwr Mount Street to a Mr. L. Edge in March '56.
    It was originally Tudor Grey.
