If your in college, try out the pubs around the town/city (dunno where you are....)

In galway the clubs hire alot of promotion staff that pays ok (will keep you going during the week, wont pay the bills though!)

But yeah, try the pubs and that. They normally take on some staff as they get very busy during college term...

Firstly, well done on geting that college place.

While your readiness to work for such little pay displays an admirable work ethic I would advise you to think hard about the consequences for accepting less the the minimum wage.

For a start, it would mean that you wouldn't be on your employer's books so no prsi will be paid. Aside from being illegal, this means that should you require to access benefits there would be no record of your employment and no "stamps" paid. This would mean that you can't access the benefits that "stamps" would entitle you to. The other, means tested, benefits are much harder to qualify for. While I'm sure you don't envision a future of sgining on, realistly speaking, there is most likey going to be a short period of time, at least, after you graduate, that you my need to.

Secondly, I assume that you can offer to work for 6 euro hourly because you will be getting a grant and the job would top you up. Most of us seeking employment do not have that luxury and simply could not survive on so little. By agreeing to below the legal wage your are basically making it extremely difficult for those needing a legal job to find one. People able and willing to work for less and those who employ them just feed the black economy and actually contribute to the unemployment problem.

I understand that you need a job, most likely it is neccessary for you to stay in college. I can fully identify with that, having been through it all myself.
As thing stand for me at the moment, I can't find any kind of work. Unscrupulous employers willing to exploit those desperate enough to work for less than minimum wage most definitly contribute to this.

Having said all fo that, I do hope you find work soon. If things are really tough there are usually some supports available in third level institutions to tide you over. The best place to start there is to ask at the SU.

    Best of luck!

Any experience with scooters or bikes?
Dominos will give you a bike and let you deliver if you have a license

Realy, your best bet is to get a glass collecting job in a pub or club.
After a few months you can try out for bar staff

    OP, don't undercut other people.
You'll be working hard so get paid what you are due, even if it is minimum wage.
And get put on the books, you then build up a record of what used to be called stamps. Not sure what the modern term is now

in response to a couple of the previous posts, i am based in Terenure,Dublin..so have the advantage of looking for jobs locally but also in the city centre and dundrum. I have applied for jobs online, handed out cvs and also told employers that i am willing to work for 5 euro an hour..being a student that is all i need. but living off my parents is something i am quite sick of and i am not very proud of...i am not feeling sorry for myself just looking for a little bit of luck out there!

You need to make sure your cover letter and CV are perfect. Loads of good advice in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=213589&page=3

I think that's a bad approach... Offer to work for the minimum wage applicable for the job and offer to work a week or two in advance of wages to get a chance to prove you're a good employee...

Essentially if you are getting a grant and offering to work for €5 an hour you're grant is subsidising the employer which is not a great thing in the overall scheme of things. It may frighten off real decent employers and demeans your self along the way..

Of course there are, here are 158 of them: http://www.parttimejobs.ie/search/advanced/category/all/location/dublin/

I've always found call centres are the best places for part-time work. They always need people to work nights or Sundays.

You could start by ringing various call centres (eircom tech support, 11850, eircom sales, etc.) and asked the bored phone operator how to apply for jobs there...

No point handing out cvs.. employers get hundreds of them.
You will need to walk into each place and ask to speak to the guy who does the hiring.

Don't try to sell yourself as a bargain. It looks terrible. And you know, saying you will work for €5 would just be insulting to most employers. It's illegal. Why not just say you will pay them €20 if they turn a blind eye to you shoplifting? Not quite the same thing but you would get the same reaction.. a polite "thanks but no thanks"

Anyway.. callcentres, supermarkets, nightclubs, pubs, hotel porter, cafes, cinemas, electronic stores.. just keep applying. If you applied everywhere, just apply again as a vacancy might have come up.

Dress smart. Trousers and a shirt. And be clean shaven. It should go without saying but I've seen people at interviews who would be asked to wipe their feet before walking into the dole office.

babysitting / gardening/ car washing might be a good way to go?

Try fas.ie, nixers.ie and your welfare officer in uni (they often have college jobs e.g. helping with ents etc).

well what do you have experience in? If you go to the Penneys and River Island website they're hiring xmas staff, if it's retail work you're after.

OP try Millward Brown market research which has a call center above the Jervis Shopping Centre. They employ up to 100 students at any given time and people are always coming and going. Its not great pay but it is the minimum wage Its also an ideal job for a student as you can pick and choose your own hours provided you do a minimum of 3 shifts a week (a shift is 4 hours but you can normally so more if you like and if there's work on).

Don't put too much effort into your CV. I handed a CV into where I now work, came back the next day asked to see manager he asked me my name told me he had thrown out all CVs as there is no point reading them. He then asked me to start tomorrow.

Anyway the message is to make sure you talk to manager, and try factories and places like that where you can work on the assembly line they don't get as much applicants as retail and will take on the first people who come to them.

Be proactive and ring them up asking about possible vacancies. Send in a CV & Cover letter to the recruiting manager.
