Driven boar hunt in Hungary anyone ?

I have booked for a driven boar hunt in Hungary this November.
Departing Dublin airport with Aer Lingus on Friday 12th November, returning Monday 15th of November. We will be shooting Saturday and Sunday,3 to 4 drives a day.

Maximum group size is 20. 14 are on the cards so far so I have 6 spaces left.As the number of hunters increases on the trip the individual price drops. If there are 20 hunters booked it will cost 850 euros plus flights, tips and beer money. Its a cheap country,a half litre of beer is about E 1.80

Seoirse1980 posted a link to our previous trip in January this year.
If you want to read it go to www.accuratereloading.com and enter oirish in FIND.Otherwise go to the European big game hunting section and trawl through page 6.7.or 8,not sure.

We are going with www.nagyvadhunting.hu Zoli, the owner is a standup guy and has a good wood booked[a State Forest] for us. I have a DVD filmed last winter in the same wood if anyone in Dublin wants to see it.

This will be the first driven hunt in this forest this autumn and a Danish hunter I met there this summer assured me it was good. It is a mixed wood. That is to say it holds red deer, roe deer mouflon, boar and fox.

There are no trophy fees but only hinds and does may be shot[I dont know what a female mouflon is called !] Shoot any boar regardless.
Shoot a red stag and you had better have your credit card handy !
There is no limit. This doesnt mean you will fill a truck.

Firearms.... You will need a rifle of at least 6.5x55 loaded with 155 Lapua or Norma Oryx or Vulkan. A 30 caliber would be better [308,30-06]
Alternatively a semiauto shotgun shooting buckshot or slug is eminently suitable, especially if you are not used to shooting running game with a rifle

Scopes.... a red dot sight is ideal,a low powered variable like 11/2x6x42 is good, fixed power of 6 or above is IMHO too much magnification. Anyone deciding to use a shotgun disregard this.

The last bit of entertainment will be a damned good lunch in an excellent restaurant in Budapest, www.kehli.hu So you will have to be able to use a knife and fork. They also have a wellstocked cigar humidor !

If anyone has any general questions about this, post them up and I will answer them as far as I am able[Should know most answers]
Otherwise PM me and I will forward the offer as I have received it from Nagyvad hunting.

    No tyre kickers please.

Think I'm going out with the same outfit in January. Good to hear more good experiences there.

Can't recommend this trip highly enough.

If you are a seasoned boar hunter or fancy having a go. In a group or on your own you should think about booking and come along.

Great bunch of lads and a great session too!!!

I've been over with www.nagyvadhunting.hu a couple of times - they put on a good show, very eager to please their customers and most importantly, no hidden costs, what you are quoted is what you pay. I'd be jumping up and down to go on this trip if my missus hadn't blown all my spare cash on bloody furniture:mad:

with most of these group hunt packages ,with 10 or more guns the guy/s that organisers it go free .i know sparta do this .

there is a few lads form wexford that organise safaris to SA ,they go free or get a discounted hunt in they can get 8-10 suckers to pay for them .

so do all the 20 guys pay the same rate ? .also is the pick up from the airport and all traveling in Hungary to and from the shooting grounds etc included or do they charge per mile ? .

Ok,take a look at Spartas prices. Or indeed any of the UK outfitters and find a comparable price.

Everybody pays the same rate. Pickup from the airport and all travelling in Hungary to and from the hunting ground is included.

looks great ! You should have good sport there. Going to France myself in november. I have been told they are keeping a nice 3 figures for me :p. A little poney as we call them :D

    Can't wait !

As for the caliber i would strongly recommend not to go under 7x64

A running boar is incredibly tough to the bullet and even if you aim right you will find that that they can take it without budging only to bleed to death hundreds of yards away.

for Hungary i recommend 300WM or 375 H&H with a good choice of bullet as the range is wide in these calibers. the best is a slow bullet that will have a strong impact power and do damage in a running body. You want these boars to be taken down swiftly !

Thanks for that. I was trying to get my hands on the estate drilling, but someone beat me to it. :( I believe we've two spots left if anybody wants to come? Just get your European firearms pass and your drinking hat and your good to go!!! There'll be more on the hit list this year with red, roe and mouflon added to the line up. So an extra few rounds in the pocket this time me thinks! We've been practicing on a rifle/shotgun simulator last night to get us used to the snap shooting and adjusting to leading with the rifle for running game. Highly recommend it to anybody boar/ duck/ pheasant/ bear shooting. Good cheap way to get the co ordination and muscle memory in check so you maximise your limited time on the hunting ground. waidmannsheil to you and your party

All the same I've knocked 7 boar with my 6.5 using 155 norma's, only one needed a second stopper !!

You are a good gun so ;) if you hit the vital part you can shoot with anything you want. If you hit the lungs or the guts with a 6.5, won't stop him... you'll have to follow a blood trail. talking from experience. If you hit with a 300WM let's say winchester XP3 (expensive but good ) you won't have to walk for too long.

Of course if you shoot at them running on a field you have plenty of time to put your red dot on the good spot but i'm used to be shooting in between 2 forestries with only the space of a boreen to take a shoot ( around 5 to 8 m ). So when Mr Boar is in a hurry it's not a long time to aim and shoot so you have to allow unfortunately for error. but these things come with practice.

I take what your saying, no harm going overarmed !! I was taught to aim for the tip of the snout on a broadside shot and bang goes the head !! But as you correctly assumed my shooting was driven out into surrounding fields, that 2 second window for a shot between two woods looks testing alrite !! But alas I think boar hunting is a luxury I can no longer afford ( but my bosses brother has bought a house in the south of France which is full of roe and boar so ya never know )

I would like to say I shot an enormous Keiler but I had to satisfy myself with some red hinds and a mouflon.
    Next time hopefully:cool:

Driven hunting is to some extent luck, some people were in the thick of it,some had several shots, some only a couple and one poor lad not one.Anything he saw was on the skyline.
One of the group saw some 30 boar but couldnt take a shot for safety reasons

I know it can be very hit or miss, twice went to France without firing a shot
