    Kilkenny duo retire

    Kilkenny defenders Michael Kavanagh and James Ryall have announced their retirements from inter-county hurling in the wake of last Sunday's All-Ireland final defeat to Tipperary.

    Kavanagh (31) lost his place to John Dalton this year, having started at right corner back in each of the All-Ireland victories between 2006 and 2009.

    He won seven All-Ireland senior medals and a record 12 Leinster medals.

    Ryall (29) has been mainly confined to the role of impact substitute in recent seasons. He won six All-Ireland medals during a distinguished career with the Cats.

    The lads have not retired well fed ned on the radio earlier saying as much, think this rumour stared on the message boards yesterday, and has been picked up by lazy journos who didn't bother to make a single phone call to verify it.
