I believe this is my first post in this forum so please be nice :).
Anyway, one of the many Finnish bands that I quite like are Villieläin. All their lyrics are in Finnish so I'm curious what exactly they are singing about. Are their lyrics cringe-worthy? So, here's a YouTube video:

And the lyrics to go with it:
    Kaiverrettu Hiekkaan

    Varjot yllä vahvistuu
    Kun mä avaan sivut kirjan
    Myrskypilvet kerääntyy
    Painajaiset kutsuu nimeltä
    Mut enää mä kuuntele en

    Vain kaiken turhuus jäljelle jää
    Vaikka kuljen kuolleena eteenpäin

    On sanat kaiverrettu hiekkaan
    Ne siinä pysy ei
    Vaikka kirjoitinkin uudestaan
    Ne tuuli aina vei

    Viimeisellä rannalla
    Minä astuin julmaan satuun
    Rajan tällä puolella
    Ei oo väärää, oikeaa
    On vain valtaa ja voittajia

    Vain kaiken turhuus jäljelle jää
    Vaikka kuljen kuolleena eteenpäin

    On sanat kaiverrettu hiekkaan
    Ne siinä pysy ei
    Vaikka kirjoitinkin uudestaan
    Ne tuuli aina vei

    On sanat kaiverrettu hiekkaan
    Eteenpäin
    On sanat kaiverrettu hiekkaan….
    Ne siinä pysy ei
    Vaikka kirjoitinkin uudestaan
    Ne tuuli aina vei
    On sanat kaiverrettu hiekkaan
    Eteenpäin
I hope the lyrics are accurate (I just copied them off another forum).

So if someone could translate the above to English I would be very grateful. In return, if anyone ever wants any Irish lyrics translated to English, let me know and I'll do my best to help out.

    Using http://translate.google.com/ I get this

    Sand carved

    Reinforced by the shadows
When I unlock my book pages
    Storm clouds gather
    Nightmares calls named
But I no longer listen to en

Only the futility of all remains
    Although I'm walking dead ahead

The words engraved on the sand
    They do not keep it
    Although the printer again
    They always took the wind

    On the beach
    I stood cruel fairy tale
On this side of the border
    Oo no wrong, the correct
There is only power, and the winners

Only the futility of all remains
    Although I'm walking dead ahead

The words engraved on the sand
    They do not keep it
    Although the printer again
    They always took the wind

The words engraved on the sand
    Forward
The words engraved on the sand ....
    They do not keep it
    Although the printer again
    They always took the wind
The words engraved on the sand
    Forward

Interesting. I never though to use an Internet translator as I figured it would probably just give back garbage. That result doesn't look too unintelligible though.

Looks like pretty standard metal lyrics :D
    Nice voice btw.

Maybe this would be something for you too? Not metal mind.

In general, using GT and other translators with the Finnish language is like stuffing meatballs into your mouth and trying to hold a proper speech.

Finnish as a language is very difficult due to grammar and the words including many of the "in", "of", "to", "from" and other nouns at the end of the word. So often the meaning in GT translations is lost.

Those lyrics though did match the translation pretty good even though there were a few mistakes.

    And yes, I'm Finnish :)

Any chance you could correct them?

I'm afraid my artistic or English language skills are not good enough to do that :)

But trust me, those lyrics there are pretty accurate. Only a few mistakes. I could have a look at some other time. Now I don't really have the time or the energy to do that :)
