Question - traveling by rail from Cork to Dublin

    Hi there,

I will be traveling from Cork to Dublin Connolly station on October 1 and I am unsure of when and how I should purchase my ticket. I tried purchasing my ticket on www.irishrail.ie, but it appears that there is no valid web fare for this ticket (I tried several different travel times on Oct. 1).

Please forgive what is surely a very simple question from yet another tourist: must I buy this ticket in person at the Cork station on the day that I plan to travel?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

    Sincerely,
    Fred

So should I ignore the option to travel to Connolly and just buy a ticket to Heuston? Or is there a way for me to get directly to Connolly (which is walking distance to my hotel)? Thanks for your help.

Use Dublin City Centre as destination, use the Luas tram to get to Busaras or Connolly. If you ask for Dublin City Centre on the irish rail site the ticket is valid on the tram

There are no rail services between Heuston and Connolly

Thank you. So let me be sure I understand you correctly: the ticket that I purchase to get to Dublin City Centre will also get me on board the Luas Tram - one ticket only, right?

The Cork-Dublin train only goes to Heuston, which is a few miles to the West of Connolly station. You will need to change to the Luas tram system (or a bus) to continue to Connolly station.

So you could either buy a web fare Cork-Heuston and buy a Luas ticket at Heuston for the City Centre zone, or go to an Irish Rail booking office and ask for a Cork-Connolly ticket including luas/bus transfer.

Thank you, that clarifies the issue for me.

you can also buy online and instead of putting dublin connolly or hueston in the destination put in dublin city centre instead and your ticket will include the luas journey into the city centre from heuston.
