"You seem like somebody who is laid back.... would that be a correct assumption?"

I got asked this at an interview before and it caught me off guard! I thought I was caught!!! I have an interview tomorrow, and just want to be prepared.

    What would you say?

There are many ways to deal with pressure.... runing round waving your hands in the air isn't always the right approach.

I suppose that you're calm under pressure but you're not lax, and you're still efficient well within any deadlines etc

Interesting question. I think your answer would very much depend on the role. "Yes' if applying for charity work, "No' if applying for an investment banking position!

It is ok to be naturally laid back as a demeaour. You can always back yourself up by giving examples of accomplishments that prove that your demeanour is not neccesarily an indicator of your abilities. Interivews and examples work very well together.

You can always argue that people are relaxed around you when you exude an air of calm.

I'm laid back, but I'm also a savage hard worker. I just take things in my stride.

compare yourself to a duck or a swan, cool and calm on top, furiously paddling underneath

Yes, if you get asked this question when applying for a serious role I'd consider it end of interview, not hired - the interviewer has come to the conclusion you're a feckless waster :)

Nope ..the interviewer has just asked (another) question. Unless you feel 100% certain that the interviewer has formed an opinion, any question (awkward as it may be) is just that...a question and your answer is the opportunity to make a difference/good impression.

Unless you are indeed a feckless waster the answer to this particular question is something along this line:

If by "laid back" you mean that I'm not easily flustered, then you would be correct. I believe that by remaining calm, collected and concentrated much more can be achieved than by panicking.
