I bought the other half an IMAC because his pc crashed recently.
He had been using Outlook and an iol email account.
Can I set this iol account up on mail and what do I need?
I can't look at the old settings from outlook because the computer won't even turn on.
I have the incoming and outgoing server from our isp provider. I have the email address obviously and what I think is the password (this password lets me log in to webmail).
I've just tried setting it up on my iphone to check if it'd work and no good.
    Am I missing some detail?

    Is it giving an error?

It says username and password for the incoming mail server are incorrect. When I looked up our broadband providers website it gave the incoming and outgoing settings but didn't mention anything about a username or password.
Do you usually need a username and password for the incoming server? I presume I'd get it by phoning them?

Yeah, you have to have a username and password. Otherwise anyone could access your email. Just use what you use for the webmail. The username is the name before the @.

How to set up IOL mail in Mail for OS X 10.5/10.6.

According to this article, the user name is your brothers email address leaving out what comes after the @.

    EDIT: Snap :)

    You guys are utter legends!
The email account and our broadband provider are different so should have different incoming and outgoing servers. Set up on the iphone now so unless I'm a complete dumbass i'll set it up on the imac later.

    I feel thick sometimes! :D
