    According to http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Pages/jajbfaq.aspx
    'There are 3 categories of claimant who may qualify for JB while partially employed:

    • Systematic short-time workers
    • Casual workers, and
    • Part-time workers.'

    Still it dosen't define what/how long part time work is..i seem to hear 20 hours a week a lot...

    Furthermore according to this http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/JobseekerSupports/JobseekersAllowance/Pages/ja.aspx

    Part-time or casual work
    If you get part-time or casual work (up to and including 3 days per week), you may still be paid a proportion of your Jobseeker's Allowance. However, you must show that you are trying to get full-time employment.

    What are the hours of these 3 days? 9am-5pm? what about overtime?

    Were you paid minimum wage or did you make a big profit? For the social to cut you off like this i would imagine you would have to be making a fair bit of money.

    a couple of my mates are doin it but they're in college though. think thats the way it works. myself on the other hand had a part time job and they cut my dole for the days i worked no matter if i worked 1 hour or the 24 hours that were in the day. go to college you''l be entitled to a grant and you'll be entitled to work 20 hours a week and claim 196euro from the dole.

    20 hours a week 10 euro an hour = 200
    dole = 196
    total = 396

    and your in college so ye might learn somethin too,not a bad idea was gonna do it myself til i got a full time job recently.

    JB means Joseeker's Benefit which is not the same as Jobseeker's Allowance. The rules that apply to each are different.

    That comment is completely wrong, you cannot claim the dole/jsa when in full-time study. You may get a grant but you can only claim unemployment benefit during the summer months when you are not receiving the grant.

    Think about it, the dole is paid while you are looking for full-time work - if studying full time you cannot possiblly work full-time.

    You cant get a college grant and be on the dole at the same time-thats illegal-report these fukkers to the social welfare office ASAP.

    It's really nothing to do with hours, unless you're working 30-40hrs p/wk.

    It's based on your earnings per day. They will then calculate how much to deduct for every day you work.

    Someone working 2-3 hours, for 1-2 days, earning €10 p/hr will have a completely different to someone working the same hrs but earning €20 p/hr.

    You need to go in and speak to staff in your local office.
