Renault oil circulation question

Hello folks, I recently did a head gasket job on a renault 5 1.4 campus 1996. The car has started OK since and runs fine but I have noticed something strange. After 5 minutes the oil gained no heat. The head and block seemed quite hot but the oil in the sump was still cold. I have turned it off as I am worried that the oil pump is not working. How can I check that the oil pump is working? There was water in the sump too but this may have been left over from before the gasket job. Ant thoughts on this

what you need to do is run the car with the rocker cover removed and see are you getting oil up to the head, if your not there is a possibility the head gasket could be fitted the wrong way around, you mightened get heat into the oil after 5 min of running, it would take a bit longer, also the oil and filter should be changed after a headgasket replacement, the water is most lightly there from when the head was removed
