I was caught speeding a few months back but the first I heard of it was a summons through the door. I went to court and the judge said I needed to pay 250 to my local St Vincent de Paul and the issue would be struck out.

I believe I must send the receipt to the local Central Court. Has anyone gone through this before? I'm not sure what to do.

Exactly as you said. Go to the charity and give the money. Ask them for a receipt. Then hand/post the receipt to your local district court office. No the local courthouse now, the local district court office. You'll find the address on www.courts.ie and don't forget to write your name and address on it and the date of your "conviction".

It is a very harsh punishment for a speeding offence.

Not if you already have points on your licence. Id rather pay 250 than get 4 points.
