Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe will miss the first half of his club’s Champions League group games after suffering ankle ligament damage on international duty with England, according to The Mirror.

Defoe was stretchered off in the 3-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday night after hitting a hat-trick against Bulgaria last Friday.

The news comes as a blow to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, with Defoe due to miss both games against Champions League holders Inter Milan, as well as next week’s trip to Werder Bremen.

Bad news he was starting to look sharp again from Goal.com so hopefully they're wrong

Don't really rate the guy but this could be a great chance for Pav to shine playing up top in a 4411 with VDV playing off him.

At least now he can have the operation on the troublesome groin and come back fitter than ever.

What a disaster. Time for Keane/Pav/Crouch to stand up and be counted. Big injuries early on to key players are never good.
