EPL Match Betting Challenge (Week 4) - Everton vs Manchester United

So in the end, the early lunch time kick off between Everton vs Manchester United was the game that was voted for most. The match will be live on Sky Sports, Saturday @ 12.45PM

    The season so far:
Everton once again have started another season off poorly, which has seen them only pick up a single point in the first 3 weeks of the season.
Saha will miss the game after picking up an injury on international duty. There are some doubts over the fitness of Anichebe and Yakubu.. so Beckford could be the one to start up front with Cahill supporting.

Man U have picked up 7 points from their opening 3 games that see them lie 2nd in the table. 2 pretty comfortable home wins vs Newcastle and West Ham and a draw vs Fulham away, a match where they will rue thanks to Nani messing up a late penalty only for Fulham to grab a last minute equaliser to draw the game. Like Fulham, Everton are a physical team. Something of which United struggled to deal with IMO.

    H2H:
Results at Goodison have been massively in the favor of the away side. But in saying that, Everton did win this fixture last year impressively, winning 3-1 on the day thanks to goals from youngsters Gosling and Rodwell in the 2nd half.

    Betting on W/D/L(in general):
    Everton - a little over 3/1
    Draw - a little over 2/1
    Man U - a little under evens

    * Finally, to quote Pyro in regards to this thread...
Discuss whatever aspects of the betting that attract you to it, why you feel it has a solid chances and put some reasoning to it! We're not all going to agree obviously so don't be bothered if someone doesn't agree with what you say

I fancy Everton to get something

    1-1

Everton have a very good team but just havent got going yet, that will change imo. I dont really rate utd this season and I think we'll find it hard to match chelsea for the title.

Both teams to score @ 8/11

Man Utd to score in both halves @ 15/8

    Over 2.5 goals @ Evs

These bets seem the most appealing to me. I can see this match being a high-scoring affair, 3-1 to United would be my guess. With Rooney finally finding form with both goals and assists I can see United getting a few goals, but Everton are no slouches at home and won't go down without a fight.

Everton are more than capable of getting something. Problem is that their form is just so rubbish so far. Added to that is the fact that United are not really missing any key players and that Rooney is looking dangerous again.

No bet for me. At a push I'd go for the Everton (+0.5) on the asian handicap. 2.0 available with VCBet and Bodog.

Everton have been alright they just havent managed to get the results that they probably deserved. I wouldn't be surprised if everton got something from this game, that being said you won't get rich backing against united. If i was to have a bet id go for a united win but its too tough to call for me, could easily end up a draw.

    do not want!!

    Everton 2/1 draw no bet.

Everton will see this as a must win or face being bottom on Sat. People may think im mad but player for player i dont see a huge difference between the teams. Everton fans will be really up for this and Rooney is in for a serious afternoon of hatred and abuse which could see him red carded.

Everton to win by a goal :D

Some books are going evens on UTD to score 2+ goals. I always feel this is a silly price and always back it as over the course of the whole season they will achieve at least a 60% strikerate in games like this in that market.

Everton are around 7-1 for h-t/f-t which is huge. They havnt played that badly, just cant seem to score and an early goal for them here, they would be hard to beat. Despite what people are saying Rooney is still off-form but he would love to score here.

Also Cahill is 15-2 for first scorer Insurebet with PP which is alright as Moyes may decide to play Cahill upfront as Beckford hasnt exactly done anything yet.
They refund stakes if Rooney scores the last goal for the usual bets.

Does anybody think Nani is slightly overpriced at 7/2 anytime scorer, i dont have enough time to give reasoning atm

    Anybody agree/disagree?

Decent price,if he starts of course.I dont like doing AGS for United players too early as you never know what team Fergie will put out

If Everton are gonna get anything out of the game, they will need their top players to perform better than they have been over the last few games. And in Arteta they have a match winner who is the Fabregas/Xavi of the Everton team. When he plays well the rest of the team normally follows suit.

Everton have injury doubts of up front and it looks like Beckford will probably lead the line.. so I can see Arteta pushing further forward along with Cahill to ease the pressure on an inexperienced Beckford. Id expect the deeper role will be left to Feilliani or Osman to battle will Fletcher in midfield with the main purpose to feed Arteta in attack (whos also their main set piece taker).

IMO great value is in Arteta AT scorer @ 4/1, Insurebet 1st scorer @ 9/1 and if he does have a wonder game; 2 or more @ 50/1 might be the bet of the weekend.

EDIT: PP have Arteta @ 60/1 to score 2 or more now

I despise these games right on the back of an international break. Some many factors play a part, be it fatigue or whatever. If this game was a few months down the line I'd really fancy Everton here. While they aren't playing bad, as mentioned there is a real lack of goals.

I do think there will be a few goals in this, over 2.5's @ evens looks pretty good to me if looking for a general bet.

    Everton -

I only like the look of goalscorers despite what I said above. Cahill is the obvious choice. First to Score for their Team(Cahill) @ 5/1 and Insurebet First Goalscorer @ 15/2. Both look very good to me.

    United -

I think United will win this tbf, but only by a goal or two at most. Won't go into any real detail regarding United but the bets I like for them are below.

Man Utd to win and 1 or 2 total goals in the match @ 3/1
    Berbatov Insurebet 1st Goalscorer @ 4/1
    Rooney Insurebet " " @ 21/10
W Rooney to score in 90 minutes and Man Utd to win the match @ 9/5

This is a hard game to call for me. Everton have had a poor start but they do have a great team and could snatch it. I do fancy a good few goals in this game although there's been no consistency in over 2.5 and under in the last few years. Its been 3-1, 2-4, and a couple of 1-0's as well. Over 2.5 @ evens is a good price and I'll be having a nibble at that.

8/1 was too big to resist. Surely you could even lay them now and ensure profit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 757 ✭✭✭colly_06

Can lay them at 4/1 on betfair. Can someone explain what would be the best way to lay them?

Have taken three bets for this, don't have the time to do a proper write up so apologies.

Rooney to be booked at 2/1
    Cahill anytime at 16/5
    Over 2.5 at evens.
